Note: The Daily News, Galveston Co., Texas, May 2, 2008 SANTA FE ----- Mr. Ira D. Jones passed from this life Wednesday morning, April 30, 2008, at home surrounded by his family.
Born July 24, 1923, in Orangefield, Texas, Mr. Jones had been a resident of the Santa Fe area for over 40 years. Ira was best known as an entrepreneur. As a car dealer, many knew him as the "Lincoln Towncar Man". Others knew him through Ira Jones Camper Sales, Valy-Hi Arabians and Valy-Hi Construction. Although primarily a real estate developer with Ira Jones Realty, he also invented such things as Big Chief Roasted Corn and Captain Ira Jones Shrimp, the Instant-O-Bath and the Valy-Hi barns and horse stalls. He enjoyed designing bar-b-que pits, was a former member of the Park Place Masonic Lodge # 1172 A.F. & A.M. and the Pipefitter�s Local #211, had served as an agent for 5 states for National Banker�s Insurance Co and had served his country faithfully in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
Preceded in death by his parents, Horace Willie and Ruby Mae (Wall) Jones; brother Horace Willie Jones, Jr.; and granddaughter, Terry Jayne Maddox, survivors include his wife of over 40 years Annie Jones of Santa Fe; sons Monte Steve Jones of Pearland, Ira Deal "Mack" Jones, Jr., and wife Andrea of Baytown; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and A. C. Maddox of Houston, Tilly and Bobby Clark of Texas City; sister Lee Watkins and husband, Curtis of La Porte; nephew Kelley Jones and wife, DeLane of La Porte, his close friend and business partner W. K. King of Katy; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Ira�s Fishing Ranchette, 7022 Beau Terre in Hitchcock, with Pastor Mack Jones officiating. Hayes Funeral Home will conduct a private cremation. (www.hayesfuneralhome.com)

La Marque Times, 1970's The "Annie Oakley Child Care Center" announced its opening this week at 3407 Gulf Freeway, under the direction of Mr. and Mrs. Ira D. Jones, The center has a capacity for 40 children and will specialize in care for children up to five years of age. The newly-remodeled facilities feature a fenced yard, segregated baths for boys and girls, an all-modern kitchen equipped to serve three hot meals a day and divided age group areas.
