Diagnosis: Manic Depressive Psychosis. Manic In 1969, Emily was furloughed to a nursing home in San Antonio where she stayed until her death in 1982. While in the State Hospital she received 15 shock therapies ----------- 10 at 140 volts and 5 at 130 volts. DEATH CERTIFICATE Informant for death certificate were records of the San Antonio State Hospital HARRIS COUNTY CLERK - Real Property On Feb. 28, 1963, Emily was paid for 31.54 acres by Humble Oil & Ref. Co. which was her share of land sold that had belonged to her grandfather Noel Jourdan Henry. Since she was in a state mental hospital the State of Texas named Aubrey Holmes guardian of the money. HARRIS COUNTY CLERK - Probate Court Guardian named was Aubrey Holmes, Docket # 078515 Estate of Emily Campbell, N. C. M. Application for the Appointment of a Guardian To the Honorable Judge of said Court: Now comes the State of Texas acting by and through the undersigned Claims Representative of the Board for Texas State Hospitals and Special Schools and makes this, its application for the appointment of a Guardian of the Estate of Emily Campbell, N.C.M., and as grounds therefor would show unto the Court: I. The said Emily Campbell is a White female patient in the San Antonio State HospitAL She is approximately sixty-seven years of age. She was adjudged to be non compos mentis in Cause No. 10667, on the sixth day of April, 1922, and has been confined to state institutions ever since such time. II. The said Emily Campbell has property rights that need to be protected in that she owns an undivided one-eleventh interest in real estate in Harris County, Texas, of the reasonable probable value of $8,000. Your applicant, The State of Texas, has a claim against this Estate for the cost of room, board, and treatment furnished said ward while in said State Hospital. III. The said Emily Campbell has no surviving husband, and is known to have had two children, to wit, Ray Campbell and Melvin Campbell. However, an extremely diligent search has been made for the whereabouts of said children, but their whereabouts are unknown and remain unknown to any members of the immediate family of said patient. The next of kin of the said Emily Campbell consist of brothers and sisters, two of which, to wit, Thomas Engleman and Alex Engleman, brothers, are patients in State Institutions and the remaining living brothers and sisters, to wit, Violet Engleman Newberry, Jordan Engleman, and Chris Engleman have filed or will file waivers in this cause, waiving their right to be appointed Guardian and declining so to act. IV. Your Applicant would respectfully show upon the Court that it is necessary that some qualified person, corporation or bank known to be qualified by the Court should be appointed to act as Guardian of the Estate of said patient. V. The State of Texas being the moving party in this Cause, a deposit for Court costs is dispensed with under Article 2276 of Vernon's Annotated Texas Civil Statutes. However, adequate funds will be on hand with which to pay Court costs as soon as a Guardian is appointed. Wherefore, Premises considered, your Applicant restpectfully prays that citation be perfected hereon as required by law, and that a duly qualified person, corporation, or bank be chosen by the Court and appointed to act as Guardian of the Estate of the said Emily Campbell, and that Letters of Guardianship be issued thereon. The State of Texas By: Robert A. Jarcik, Claims Representative for the Board for Texas State Hospitals and Special Schools Waviers were signed on Nov. 23, 1962, by Chris Engleman, Violet Engleman NewBerry, and Jordan Engleman. They requested that Aubrey Holmes be appointed Guardian of Emily. Order Appointing Guardian and Appraisers was signed Nov. 27, 1962. Aubrey Holmes was appointed Guardian and he was ordered to post a $10,000 bond. Fidelity and Deposit Company of Maryland, handled the bond. It was furthered ordered that H. A. Crabb, G. P. Pearson, and C. H. Creson as apprisers. Inventory and Appraisement was filed Dec. 3, 1962. An undivided one-eleventh interest in 31.54 acres of land, in the David Harris League on Middle Bayou, Harris County, Texas was valued at $8,600. Order Confirming Sale was filed Feb. 19th, 1963. Application for Expenditure of Funds was filed March 4, 1963 for $430.05 for the Guardian Aubrey Holmes and $88.25 to the law firm of Strong, Baker & Heyburn for court costs. Final Accounting was filed April 6, 1964 A. $500.00 for the personal trust fund of said ward at San Antonio State Hospital, to revert to said hospital in payment to said hospital on the account for room, board and treatment in the event the ward dies before said sum, or any portion thereof, is fully expended. B. $500.00 to San Antonio State Hospital for a burial fund for said ward. C. $150.00 to Guardian, Aubrey Holmes, as Guardian's fee for closing estate, preparing final accounting, and winding up guardianship. D. Payment of any unpaid court costs or pro rata bond premium. E. The balance of said funds to be paid over to the San Antonio State Hospital on account for the room, board and treatment of said ward in accordance with a claim heretofore allowed by the guardian and approved by the court. It was further ordered that upon compliance with the foregoing, the said Aubrey Holmes, Guardian, and Fiedelity & Deposit Company, the surety on the $10,000.00 bond be discharged and the estate of Emily Campbell closed forever.
