Oak Hill Cemetery, located outside of McDade, in Bastrop County, Texas. >From Bastrop, take Hwy 95 North. Turn right on Cnty Rd 2336. Look for County Rd 361, or Oak Hill Cemetery Road, to the right. The cemetery is located on this road on the left hand side. There is a cemetery association with Mr. Fleming officiating.
During WWII, this cemetery was located inside the borders of Camp Swift. The government condemned land North of Bastrop to make Camp Swift. Many families were forced to move from their land. After the war they were offered their land back, at a price. Any iron fencing around graves were removed for the war effort. There are many graves that are not marked with headstones. Older members of the community were asked to come and identify graves but there are still many to be identified and are marked with temporary markers.
