I have a genealogy 'angel' in St. Francois County, MO, who recently supplied me with the probate papers for the estate of Hezekiah Lasater. I've been in possession of his will for many years but did not know of the existence of the probate papers. The first page is the most important of all as it informs us of the location of all of his children during the probate process in March of 1847. I am afraid this is going to change some of the information that has been posted on the internet and some of the lines of his children listed on the internet will be found incorrect. The information was supplied to the court by Reuben Roark Lasater, Hezekiah's son, and my (& John Bowies') gg grandfather.
Hesekiah, the son of Hesekiah deceased, married Lavina Harris in St. Francois County in 1836. Knowing that brother Jonathan was in Lawrence County, AR and now knowing that Hesekiah was deceased prior to his father in 1847 AND assuming his young wife would remarry; I checked marriage records in AR for a Lavina Lasater. I found Louvena J Lasater married to a William J Wells in 1841 in Lawrence County. I checked the 1850 census for William Wells. They were still in Lawrence county and you will find Louvena with her 2nd husband, her daughter Margaret Lasiter age 13 (born ca 1837) and then the rest of the children are Wells. There is also a George Lasiter, age 19, living with this family. Too old to be her son but perhaps a son of her also deceased brother-in-law Edward?? Only a suggestion there, no proof yet. So we know that Hesekiah had at least one child, Margaret, prior to his death and we know he died prior to 1841 when his widow remarries.
I have not been able to turn up any info on Edward yet. We know that he is deceased prior to 1847 and that he left children, probably in AR, probably in Lawrence Co. We do know now that the Edward C Lasater in Lawrence is not him.
Some of us have known of John T Lasater in the 1860 Oregon census, knew he was the right age and born in TN, and that Rebecca Simpson was also in Oregon at the same time but there was no proof-positive he was the John T son of Hesekiah. Now we know. Information on the 1845 wagon trains from MO to OR is now online and you can find the names of John Lasater and his sister, her husband and her children on that roster.
If anyone is interested in receiving a copy of the probate papers, please email me. They are an entire accounting of all his possessions, what they sold for, and who purchased what items.

I was going to ask Bob Schmidt to look again at the original in the courthouse to see if he can decipher. Then it is signed..... Thos. McCullom Justice of the Peace of St Genevieve County (Vanessa writes:) PS Isaac N. Harris husband of Elizabeth Lasater. It's amazing to me that they even sold his food (even more amazing to see how much bacon you could get for $4.00) I found Hezekiah's (the deceased son-brother) widow and child in Lawarence County, AR and when/who she remarried to. I have not been able to locate Edwards children yet. John T. Lasater died (I think) ca 1861 or so as he wife remarries about then. He left a son and two daughters. I know what happened to the daughters but haven't been able to find his son David after 1870 (when he was about 21). I knew one of Rebecca Lasater Simpson's descendents but she passed away in the last couple of years. John T. Lasater's and Rebecca Lasater Simpson's descendents stayed in Oregon for the most part. Still working on where Isaac and Elizabeth ended up and trying to verify a marriage for Jane Lasater. I know folks who are descended from Daniel and Jonathan Lasater so ALMOST know the fate of all Hezekiah's kids. The chase goes on...
