Hammond moved here from Alabama in 1853 and built a plantation home about a mile to the west. Neighbors included JAMES LOVE and Robert S. McCall. Hammond depot and post office were opened at this point on the Houston & Texas Central Railroad after the doctor granted right-of-way through his land in 1869. Near the depot, used by planters for their shipping, were a few stores. As the railroad declined, the town had vanished by 1950. Area residents are mostly the descendants of persons given land at emancipation (1865) by Dr. Hammond and other planters." 1910, 8 Pct., Robertson Co., Texas, ED 119, pg. 301, line 85 Love, James F 29 married 7 yrs Texas Texas Texas merchant, dry goods Pinkie B 24 no children Texas AL MS 1920 Robertson Co., Texas, ED 188, line 99, pct. 8, sheet 3B Love, James 38 Born Texas Parents born Texas farmer Pinkey 30 " Father born AL Mother born Texas Hill, Christine 8 SSIL " " " 1930 Precinct 8, Robertson Co., Texas, ED19, pg. 18B, line 77 Love, James T. 49 age at 1st marriage 21 b.
