Note: The Baytown Sun, Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009 Curtis James Newberry, 69, of Baytown, passed away on December 2, 2009, at a local hospital. He was born February 9, 1940, in Baytown to Jesse James Newberry and Violet Engelmann Newberry. He was a welder and worked for General Electric for twelve years and was a member of Local Union 211. Besides his family, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Newberry was a wonderful son, husband, father, step-father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. Preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters and his first wife, Peggy Newberry, he is survived by his wife, Patsy Newberry; daughters, Kim Campbell and husband, Mike, and Dena Matheson and husband, Jerry, all of Baytown; step-children, Reggie Stewart, of League City, Steve Stewart, of Houston, Susan Heyen and husband, Daniel, of Baytown; two sisters, Frances Tomek and Martha Sick; grandchildren, Cameron and Sulia Campbell, Katherine and Jack Buras, Lindsay Meadows, Brittany and Joshua Matheson, Kegan Adrian and Karsyn and Kloe Heyen; great grandchildren, Emali and Caelin Campbell and Jonathan Buras; and numerous friends and family who loved him. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 4, 2009, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home. A service will follow in the Chapel of Crespo & Jirrels at 10 a.m., with Reverend Doug Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery. Honoring the family as pallbearers will be Daniel Heyen, Wesley Blackburn, Matt Baker, Jim Baker, Vertis Tomek and Cecil Sick. The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff members at Odyssey Hospice who showed great respect for Curtis at his time of need.
