Dear Lilly, I thought of more to tell you: Christene"s husband, Kurt Kowerske, is still alive, age 92, (Janeene's dad) and lives in Nachitoches, Louisana with Janeene's brother. Kurt, Jr. I also heard from a lady who has books containing cemetery listings for Leon Co.(she doesn't live there, but her father did), Elva Pearl's mother, Sarah Elisabeth Rankin May 5,1858------Oct.19,1934 is buried in Friendship Cem. The other listings are T.B. Rankin 1841-1891 (probably her husband) and John Ireland Rankin, Dec. 1.1885---Sept. 27.l967 (probably her son). Didn't know if you were interested in that or not. I e-mailed the lady back, and asked her to look in her books for any Hills or Allisons. I will let you know what I hear. Sue

Hi Lilly, Thanks for the info regarding Mable Hill Lomax. I had often wondered about her. When did she die, or was the obituary dated 4-20-1956. Did her son, Lee Lomax die at the same time? That name Lee Lomax is so familiar to me. We lived in Winnsboro when I was growing up and graduated from high school there, and Quitman is about 15 or 20 miles from Winnsboro. I had relatives there at one time. There may still be Lomax family in the Franklin area. Let me know what else you find out I have been doing research too. Yesterday, while looking through an antique booklet, there were some ads for Jewett businesses and the Chamber of Commerce ad with phone number. I called and got a nice lady named Ollie, at the Chamber. I inquired about the local newspaper and funeral homes there. She gave me the number of the newspaper. I called them, and found their records burned 10 years ago. The funeral home in town hadn't been there long. I thought I had hit another dead end, in searching for Elva Pearl's father's name. HOWEVER, today, I had a long distance phone call from Ollie, and she gave me the name and number of a lady in Jewett, who is 87 years old, named Syble Ellis. I called her, and she told me that she knew Elva Pearl's mother, Sarah Elizabeth Reeve Allison Rankin, and that when she was a young married woman, she had lived for 11 years as a neighbor to Thomas Berry Rankin and Sarah Elizabeth, who was known to everyone as Aunt Sally. She described her to a tee (remember, I have a picture of her) that she was short, even tiny and very cute, and laughed all the time. They all lived near Birch Creek which is at the intersection of FM (I guess) 1469 and 1146. She said the creek is still there. She did not know the name of Sally's first husband, as they never lived there, just she and Rankin. But she did know that the children by Allison were Jay and Dan. She didn't know about Elva Pearl. Dan Allison lived in Houston and she went to live there close to him or with him for several years, before coming back to Jewett. I remember that my dad used to visit a cousin in Houston, named Sydney Allison . This lady thought that Sydney was the son of Dan. I tried to find Sydney Allison last year in Houston, and one of them was a black family, and one of them was a young woman who was divorced from a Sydney, but his family was from another far off state. I got those numbers from the White pages (phone book). Anyway, Sidney would be dead now, as he was probably my dad's age or older. Sally' children by T.B.Rankin were John Ireland Rankin,( buried next to them, and he never married.) and the daughter Mary Rankin who was married to Arthur Hill. Of course, we already knew about both of these children When you have time, maybe you could find Dan or Sydney Allison on the death index or SS records. I must go and get ready for phy. therapy. Love, Sue
