a. Note:   The Baytown Sun, Oct. 30. 2007 Agnes Doucet Baker died suddenly on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, after a brief stay in the hospital in Baytown, Texas. Agnes was always close to the Lord and returns home to be with her Lord and her loved ones. She had been a member of Central Baptist Church in Baytown for a long time.
  Agnes was born March 29, 1926, in Pelly, Texas., to Violet Doucet and Adam Doucet She was the third of five girls. When Agnes was about six years old, her dad died in an oilfield accident. Several years later, her mom remarried, and the family was blessed with a boy, a brother that Agnes adored.
  Agnes attended Anson Jones Elementary, Horace Mann Junior High and Robert E. Lee High School. While in High School, she was a member of the famed �LEE BRIGADIERS�. A year of so before graduation, she started to work at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She was on the ground floor when the telephone company went from a manual system to an automated system. There she acquired many friends who enriched her life immensely. She worked there until her first son was born.
  A few years after going to work, she met and married Matthew Joseph (Beano) Baker, her husband for well over 50 years. Agnes and Beano had two sons, Matthew Joseph, Jr. (Matt) Baker and James Adam (Jim) Baker. After the birth of her first son, she became a homemaker. She worked tirelessly to be the best mom, wife, friend and human being that was possible. Her children, Matt and Jim, grandchildren, Courtney Baker and Lt. Tom Hayes with the United States Air Force and his wife Sunny and great grandchildren, Steven, Brett and Jacob were important to her and a great part of her life.
  Agnes� husband, Beano, worked for the Pipefitter�s Local 211, so they had the opportunity to travel extensively when they were younger, going to Conventions and meetings all over America and Hawaii. The family also liked to go to New Braunfels on Labor Day Weekend and float down the rapids. After the boys were grown, Agnes and Beano and her sisters and brothers-in-law liked to visit Reno and South Lake Tahoe, Ca. At Tahoe, she loved to drive around the lake and view the mountains, trees and the beautiful Lake Tahoe.
  Agnes was a person to take care of anyone and everyone when they were sick or just feeling bad or just needed someone to talk to. She always had a smile on her face, a calm voice and her manner of speaking showed great intelligence. She liked to watch the political news on television and kept up with current events. Besides traveling, she liked to visit with family and friends, go camping, listen to religious music, country and western music and music from the 50s.
  Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Beano Baker; sister, Beverly Garvey and her mother, father and step-father.
  Agnes is survived by her two sons, Matt Baker and his fianc� Velinda Zarate, and Jim Baker; granddaughter, Courtney Joy Baker; grandson, Tom Hayes and his wife Sunny; great-grandchildren, Brett, Steven and Jacob; sisters, Frances Tomek and Martha Sick; brother, Curtis James Newberry and wife Patsy and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
  Agnes lived her life in service to other people. She will be remembered for her quiet inner strength and she will never be forgotten and will live on in our thoughts and hearts forever.
  The family will receive friends at Earthman Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 30, 2007; from 5 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 31, at 10 a.m., in the funeral home chapel.
  Following the service, the family invites all friends and relatives to meet at the home at 603 Riverbend Drive.
