ABILENE REPORTER NEWS, ABILENE, Texas STROKE FATAL TO MRS. WHITE, 72, IN WINTERS Death Occurs Shortly After Pioneer Woman Takes Downtown Walk; Rites Set Today Winters, Sept. 29, 1933 Mrs. H. C. White, resident of Winters for 29 years, died at her home at 1 p.m. today, from an illness of only two hours duration. She was 72 years old. Mrs. White was found lying across her bed unconscious, shortly after she returned from a walk downtown. The family physician, who was hurriedly summoned, said she was suffering from a cerebral hemorrhage. She died without regaining consciousness. Although of frail constitution, Mrs. White was an unusually active woman for her years. For 10 years, since the death of her younger daughter, Mrs. Irene Wood, she had cared for three grandchildren, Mabel Clifford, C. W. and Jane Wood, who reside in her home. Friends who met her on her last walk said she was apparently in good health and chatted with them cheerfully. The funeral has been set for 3:30 p.m. Saturday from her home on Main street. Rev. L. W. Seymour, paster of the First Methodist church of which she was a member will officiate. He will be assisted by Rev. W. T. Hamor, First Baptist pastor, and Rev. J. W. Joiner, Presbyterian minister. Burial will be made in the old cemetery on Main street, beside the grave of her husband, who died 25 years ago. Surviving Mrs. White are a daughter, Mrs. Will Pierce and a son, Frank White of Winters; five grandchildren, William Pierce of Dallas and Roland Pierce of Winters; her step-mother, Mrs. Ben F. Jones of Tuscola; five brothers, Ben Jones of View, Rev. Arthur Jones of Vernon, Fred and Elmo Jones of Tuscola, and Matt Jones of Edes, Colorado; three sisters, Miss Mary Jones of Tuscola, Miss Belle Jones, a teacher in the Abilene high school, and Mrs. Guthrie Allen of Lamesa.
