Note: from The Edgerton Journal; Jun 1922 "Willie Griffith and Miss Carrie Belle Shackelford, both of the Ridgely neighborhood went to Liberty, Mo. on Wednesday of this week, where they were united in marriage. They went from there to Lawarence, where they spent several days with relatives, before returning to Edgertom where they will make their home with the groom's parents. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Griffith and is a very popular and worthy young man. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nick Shackelford, and is a most attractive and worthy young lady to grace any home. They have a host of friends in Ridgely and vicinity who joins the Journal in hearty congratulations and best wishes for a long and happy married life." 1930 census Preston, Platte, Mo. William E. Griffith, 80, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Ridgely Christian Church. Mr. Griffith, a resident of the Smithville Convalescent Center, died Sunday evening, Jan 13, 1979. Mr Griffith was born Dec 6, 1899, to John W. and Cora L. Griffith near Ridgely, Mo. He attended school and grew up in the Ridgely area. June 7, 1921, he was united in marriage to Carrie Belle Shackelford. After their marriage, they farmed south of Ridgely where they made their home. Mrs. Griffith died in Jan 1967. A long time member of the Ridgely Christian Church, Mr. Griffith served on the church board, was a deacon and for many years taught Sunday school. He also served as president of the Ridgely Cemetery board, was a member of the school board and a delveloper of the rural water district. Mr. Griffith also served on many United Fund drives. He leaves two sons, Harold Griffith, Kansas City, and Robert Griffith, Parkville, and two daughters, Mrs. Mary Frances Thomas, Kansas City, and Mrs. Lillian Foster, Edgerton. Other survivers include a sister, Mrs. Georgia Newman, Smithville, 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two nieces, and other reatives and friends. Rev. Preston Gregory and Rev. Dan Crump officiated at the service. Music was provided by organist Dixie Elliott and soloist Rev. Bill Moots. They brought "In the Sweet By and By" and "When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder:. Robert Reineke, Merle Denney, Tom Hurst, Claudie Wilson, Mark Fisher, Marion Yates, Roy Blankenship and Marion Shafer were casketbearers. Burial was in Ridgely Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Hixson-Klein Funeral Home.
