Notes
a. Note:   Fred was the son of a barber, who had many accomplishments in his life. He studied law at the Harrison Law School, and his first full-time job was attorney to the International Barber's Union. During the Great Depression, he lost that job, and took a position with the Indiana Security and Exchange Commision, where he helped write many of the regulations pertaining to the governance of financial institutions in Indiana.
Fred was a life-long member of the Democratic party, establishing friendships over the years with many members of that party. In addition to being active within the party, he was also very involved in many community organzations, including the Masons, the Perry Township PTA, a founding member of the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department, and helped bring city water to the people of Brown County through forming the Brown County Water Company. A devout Christian, Fred was also very involved in his church, St. Mark's Lutheran.
His law practice was limited to probate affairs (guardianships, estates, adoptions), and he served twice in the Marion County Probate Court (now the Marion County Superior Court, Probate Division) as a hearing judge/commisioner, first under Hon. Joseph Wood (D) and Hon. Edward Madinger (R), and later under Hon. Victor Pfau (D). His knowledge of probate laws served as the basis for many of the boilerplate language used to this day in probate proceedings and pleadings.
