Note: From the Winston Herald newspaper, Double Springs, Winston County, Alabama, Friday, August 31, 1934. In Memory Mr. J.M. Martin, an aged citizen, of Winston County, has passed away. On July 8, 1934, the death angel visited our home and took from us our dear loving father. He was laid to rest in the Old Enon cemetery, by his wife. Burial services were conducted by the pastor of his church, Rev. George Ingle. He belonged to the Missionary Baptist Church for 37 years at Old Enon. He was 78 years old and has lived in Winston County since he was a small boy. He loved his church and he loved his home. He was the father of 9 children, three of them are dead. He leaves to mourn his death, two boys, Charlie Martin and Tom Martin, 4 girls, Leonie Manasco, Dovie Harper, Alice Martin, and Ada Martin; one brother, two sisters; one half-brother and one half-sister; 26 grand children but two are dead, and 15 great grand children, 2 of whom are dead; also a host of friends and relatives. Our home has now a vacant place, a silent voice and an absent face; a vacant place that never can be filled. May the Lord bless each and every one for their help and kindness during the sickness and death of our father. He was 'bad off' for three weeks. Everything was done for him that could be done, but nothing did him any good. 'God saw his suffering was too great, and opened wide the golden gate.' Dear father's gone to live with God, His warfare here is o'er, God's blessed angels cal'ed him home To that celestial shore. Come blessed day he'll call for me Some day he'll call for you; Be ready when the summons comes--- Be ready and be true. He has left this world of sorrow He has left this world of care He is living with the angels, And we hope to meet him there. Some day I'll meet my dear father When from this world of trouble I'm free There with Christ, God and the angels And father and mother I'll ever be. Written by HIS CHILDREN.
