I was looking for our Irish Ancestry before my mother makes a trip to Ireland. She has Irish ancestry on both sides of her family, or so we have always believed. I started with her father's family - she knew very little about him - her parents separated when she was five or six years old, about 1943, and there was very little contact with him or his family since. She saw his family once at age eleven which gave us the best memories to go on. Her father was Lorin Power (Lorin W. Power died 3-26-1963 in San Francisco, CA., we do not know his birthdate) Lorin was living in Calistoga, CA when he met his wife Catherine Hearst. She remembered his two sisters Guinevere and Rowena, and his parents names Grace and Joseph. This is what I started with. What I have found through census records and look ups in Calistoga, Napa County genealogical Society is this.
Joseph A. Power b. abt. 1879 Kansas d. abt. 1938 Napa, CA Spouse Grace Douglas (Douglass) Power b.10-30-1878 Texas d. 6-6-1960 Los Angeles, CA (this is where my Mom saw her in 1949) have leads on her family but waiting for death certificate to verify connection. Children: Everett W. b. 1903 CA (my Mom had no memory of him) d. 1972 San Diego Rowena Jeanne b. 1906 CA d. 1998 San Bernardino, CA Guinevere Lois (most records show Genevieve) b. 1907 CA d. 1980 Los Angeles, CA Lorin Weston b. abt 1909 d. 1963 San Francisco, CA.
*none of these births show up on California Birth records that I can find.
Joseph A. was the son of Joseph Carson Power and Rebecca Mary Mcdonald - these two are buried in Calistoga, CA at Pioneer cemetery along with some of their other children and possibly Joseph A., unkept cemetery with bad records.

At the Napa genealogical Society I have found all of these sons listed in The Great Registers that did not list woman.
Joseph C. Power is the son of Andrew and Mary Carson Andrew Power b. KY Mary Carson b. OH Married - Rush Indiana 6-7-1827
Children Son abt. 1830 Daughter abt. 1829 *these first two were gone by the 1850 census that names all children but early census records show older children but no names, could be Robert Henry and Elizabeth Rivers I found a Mary Power living with Elizabeth Rivers and her family shown as mother in law. Martha b. abt 1833 Ind Joseph C. b. abt 1835 Ind Stephen b. abt 1839 Ind Nehemiah b. abt. 1842 Ind Sarah b. abt. 1843 Ind John H. b. abt 1846 Ind Mary M. b. abt 1847 Iowa Lucretia b. abt 1848 Iowa
I have no proof but I believe that Andrews parents were James and Margaret Power. Still looking for some facts. I have been in contact with another man doing this family tree that is sending me some facts that may make the connection.
census records I have found include: 1830 Power William 1830 Power Andrew 1830 Power ? all in Rush Indiana (image 93 on ancestry.com)
1840 Andrew Powers Indiana, Rush, Washington, Image 7 on ancestry.com shows numbers for children
1850 Power, Andrew Iowa, Keokuk, District 26, page 256 (Image 67) names Mary and children, I believe two are already gone.
1860 Power, Andrew Iowa, Poweshiek, sugarcreek, (image 29 & 30) lists Mary and 6 children still living with them. Right next door is Joseph C. with Rebecca M. and their first three children.
1870 Power, Andrew Iowa, Poweshiek, Sugarcreek Page 394 (image 349) Mary and two children left at home. **Joseph shows on index but page 388 image 340 is missing and I do not know when it will be fixed.
1880 Power J. C. California, Yuba, Wheatland with Rebecca and the six youngest of their children still with them.
1910 Power Joseph A. Ca, Napa, other township hot springs with Grace and Rebecca now living with them and their four children.
I do not know if I will ever connect the generation before this since names are not all listed on early census records. If you have any suggestions please let me know. You have so much information, how did you find it all?
