  Pioneer woman passes
  Mrs.. H.W. Kauffman, one of the pioneer residents of the Yakima Valley, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs.. T.E. Ferguson of Portland, Saturday, August 24, at 1:30Pm. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:30P in the Presbyterian church at Mabton. she was laid to rest in the Mabton cemetery.
  Frances May Kauffman was born in Fairfield Iowa in 1864 where she grew to young womanhood. In 1880 she was married to H.W. Kauffman. To this union 10 children were born, eight of who survive, one daughter Ethel passed away in infancy and Mary in 1911 at the age of 19.
  In 1890 she with her husband and family moved to the Yakima Valley, the last 18 years being spent at the family home near Mabton. Mrs. Kauffman was a true Christian mother, her love and kinds ever being an inspiration to her family and friends.
  She leaves to mourn her departure besides her husband three daughters. Mrs. N.P. Linn of Denver, Mrs.. Burton Pontius of Mabton and Mrs.. T E Ferguson of Portland.
  Five sons, George of Portland, Walter of Laurel, Lester of Spokane, Clifford of Sunnyside and Clayton of Seattle, and two sisters Mrs. O.O. Beardsley of Yakima, Mrs. Will Elgrinfritz of Stockton CA. and a brother Albert Gardner of Bonapart Iowa.
