Note: (Research):Listed as a farm laborer and living in the home of his brother-in-law, John A. Bulloch, and his family on the 1860 U.S. Census for Thomas County, GA. Jesse N. Thompson was one of the first to step forward and enroll with the Seventeenth Volunteers on Saturday, on July 27th, 1861. Frederick Green, Lewis M. and David W. Thompson enrolled on October 4th, 1861. A descriptive roll of the E Company, 29th Volunteer Infantry, Geogia gives this physical description of Jesse, age: 19, height:5' 63/4", fair complexion, blue eyes and light hair. It also records that he was born in Jackson County, Georgia. Name appears on the rolls for Military Hospitals in Wilmington, North Carolina and Floyd House and Ocmulgee Hospitals in Macon, Georgia. Both rolls were for 1863. Received wounds to the shoulder and leg during the Battle of Jonesboro, Georgia. The battle occurred August 31, 1864 to September 1, 1864. From his application for an indigent pension, Jesse stated that was sent home following his injuries. His pension application indicates that he was shot seven times with injuries to his leg, shoulder and chest. 1914, Official Minutes of County Commissioners, On motion, $2.50 worth of supplies will be furnished Mr. Jesse Thompson, per month, he being an indigent soldier.
