Note:   (Research):White, James O. 1790-1855
Nothing is known of his antecedents.
James O. White served in the War of 1812. His widow applied in Clinch County, Georgia, for a pension, and set forth the following record of his service: Served in Capt. James Ward's company of South Carolina Militia; enlisted Nov. 6, 1814, served until March 16, 1815; was drafted in Laurens District, S.C., and was stationed at or near Charleston, Georgetown and Beaufort Island, S.C. Mrs. White drew a widow's pension until her death sometime about 1880.
Mr. White moved to Georgia about 1823-4, and settled in what was then Appling County. In 1825 he was cut into the new County of Ware, and in 1850 into Clinch out of Ware. He served as Justice of Peace of the 586th District, 1829-1833 and 1837-1841. For many years his home was in present Clinch County just west of Arabia Bay.
Mr. White and wife are buried at Union Hill Church in present Atkinson County. The tombstone states he died Nov. 12 1852; however, the widow in her pension application in 1870, states he died October 19, 1855. It is not known which date is correct.
Of the foregoing children, Wm. E. White and family moved about 1870-75 to the State of Maine and appears to have been lost sight of afterwards; Mrs. Samantha Sears and her husband and children moved to LaFayette County, Fla., about 1853; and Thomas White and family moved to North Georgia and descendants here today know nothing of them further.
The dates of birth of children and their names as given above are taken from the widow's pension application.
