  Geoff,
I seriously doubt any of what I have to say is new to you, but here's the short of it.
I assume you have access to Ancestry.com. In the 1850 census of Wilkinson Co., Ga. 93rd subdivision, household 894 and family 894 you can find a James Bullock (95), born in NC and (I assume his wife) Elizabeth (70), was born in Ga. Included in that household were Matthew (15) and John (17), both born in Ga. It is difficult to believe (because they were so old in 1850) that this James and Elizabeth Bullock of household 894 were the parents of Matilda F., James Allen, John Milton, and Matthew Bullock, but I suppose it is possible. John and Elizabeth were old enough in 1850 to have been grand parents of the youngsters residing with them.
By 1850, Matilda F. Bullock had married Henry D. McCullar and James Allen Bullock had married Susan Ann Elizabeth "Susannah" Cooper, both married in Wilkinson Co., Ga. James Allen and Susan Bullock had already moved to Thomas Co., Ga. by 1850 and Henry D. and Matilda Bullock McCullar were soon to follow. Also, John Milton moved to Thomas Co., Ga. by the time he married Susannah E. Thompson. Matthew Bullock (24) was single and had moved to Thomas Co., Ga. by 1860.
My information mostly originated from a researcher's data filed in the Thomasville Genealogical, History and Fine Arts Library, in Thomasville, Georgia. It was probably the research of Georgia Beatrice Griffin, Ed.D of the Ellabelle District near Ochlocknee. The subject research data declared that James Bullock I (no birth year given who died on the 28 May 1874 in Cumberland Co., NC) married Sarah May, with no other data provided on her. This couple had at least 6 children, James Bullock II, Thomas Bullock IV, Elizabeth Bullock, Liddy (Lydia) Bullock, Benjamin Bullock, and Seth Bullock. According to the researcher's data, James Bullock II married Elizabeth Searcy and they had at least 4 children, Matilda F. Bullock (1825 - Bef 1900), James Allen Bullock (1828 - 1910), John Milton Bullock (1833 - 1863), and Matthew Bullock (1835 - 1863). Matilda Bullock married Henry D. McCullar on the 1 Jan 1844 in Wilkinson Co., Ga. James Allen Bullock married Susan Ann Elizabeth "Susannah" Cooper on the 16 Dec 1849 in Wilkinson Co., Ga. John Milton Bullock married (1) Susannah E. Thompson the 20 Dec 1855 in Thomas Co., Ga. and (2) Ailey P. Jones on the 22 Dec 1859 in Thomas Co., Ga; John Milton Bullock died in the Civil War with the C.S.A in 1863 and was buried in St. Petersburg, VA. Matthew Bullock apparently never married and also died in the Civil War at Baker's Creek, in Miss.
There is no absolutely positive record found that establishes Matilda F. McCullars (wife of Henry D. McCullars) to be the daughter of James and Elizabeth Searcy Bullock. However, one of the sons of Henry D. and Matilda F. McCullars was Matthew "Mack" McCullar(s). Matthew "Mack" McCullars died in 1919, in Georgia and from his death certificate found in the online Georgia Archives, Mack McCullars' parents were recorded to be Henry McCullars and Matilda Bullock (see certificate data below) ---
  ---------------------- From Ancestry.Com:
Title Mccullar, Mack Birth Date 1859-12-04 Age at Death 59 years 10 months 10 days County of Death Thomas Date of Death 1919-10-14 Year of Death 1919 Father's Name Henry Mccullar Mother's Name Matilda Bullock First Name Mack Last Name Mccullar Race or Ethnic Origin Caucasian Certificate Number 16472 Sex Male Spouse's Name Mary Mccullar Format Document Cite as Death Certificates, Vital Records, Public Health, RG 26-5-95, Georgia Archives Digital Collection Georgia Death Certificates
NOTE: from the digital image of this death certificate, the certificate's informant was C. B. McCullar (a.k.a. Clinton Burns McCullere), the son of the deceased, Mack McCullar (a.k.a. Matthew "Mack" McCullar) and Matilda Bullock McCullar. Mack McCullar was a carpenter who died of cardiovascular problems.
---------------------- --- Continuing on with my theory that Matilda F. Bullock was a daughter of James and Elizabeth Searcy Bullock --- Find H. D. McCullars in the 1860 census of Thomas Co., Ga. and note that Henry and Matilda lived 2 households from J. A. bullock (a.k.a. James Allen Bullock), 4 households from J. M. Bullock (a.k.a. John Milton Bullock), and 5 households from Matthew Bullock. All the Children of James and Elizabeth Searcy Bullock were living almost next door in Thomas County in 1860. By the record of 1850 census data, Matilda F. Bullock was born in 1825 in Ga. and thus could have been a daughter of James and Elizabeth who were married in 1823 in Wilkins Co., Ga.
With that I conclude my meandering analysis and conclusion that Matilda F. Bullock was a daughter of James and Elizabeth Searcy Bullock.
