Dear Mr. Thompson, Hello. Thank you so much for sending the photos of the old car to us. We, here in Kokomo, Indiana, are always interested in looking at any old cars. While the carriage looks like one of the early Haynes-Appersons, I'm a bit puzzled by the drive train. Haynes never made a belt-driven drive train as it appears in these photos. There were no prototypes of the Haynes car prior to 1893-1894. The "Pioneer" (which is on display in the Smithsonian) was the first of his cars. We have many documents and some photos from the time frame which indicates that the chain-driven drive train is what they used on all of the Haynes-Appersons manufactured in the 1890s.
As I said, the carriage looks very much like the early Haynes-Apperson cars but the drive train is clearly not Haynes.
You mentioned that the car was restored in the1920s. How much do you know about the restoration? It is possible that this is a Haynes but some liberties were taken with the restoration. Thank you again for the photos and if there is anything we can do to help you with your search for the information about this car or any other car please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.   Dear Nancy
Thanks for taking my call. The story that was in a newspaper article (not included) is that this is a 1892 Haynes automobile. It was discovered and restored by my Great Grand Uncle Leon Whitehurst sometime in the 1920s. He used to wear period clothing and ride it in parades in the Plant City, Florida area. I do not know where the automobile is today. I appreciate your time and assistance.
  Sincerely, Geoffrey Thompson i
