Note:   Leaving Thomasville on Highway 84 west, once you cross the river bridge, within the next mile or so you need to be in the LEFT LANE, as the Park entrance will be on your left. There is a left turn lane on US 84 to enter this park. The state has placed new signs at its gate, but is still easily passed by if not careful. When you see the sign, turn left off 84 and enter it. You will then drive on a unpaved road for about one mile or less up to the entry gates and welcome station (unmanned). You can park under the live oaks there. The road does continue, but is often closed to restricted traffic such as those that might live farther in or seasonal hunters. There are openings to walk through that fence. I walk from that welcome station for about one-half mile or a little more. The Elwell Cemetery will be on your right. There is a small wooden passage gate entrance, but most of the cemetery is open.
