Note: (Research):Barbara was born in Nashua, New Hampshire on 18 July 1937 to Frederick and Marion Wilson Rau. Barbara grew up on a farm in New Hampshire, but when her parents retired, they moved to Clearwater, Florida when she was a teenager. Barbara always spoke fondly of that farm and she visited it again in 1997. Her New England accent never completely left her. Barbara graduated from Clearwater High School in 1955. She was a drum majorette in the marching band. Barbara was a beautiful young woman and placed in a beauty pageant while she was in high school. She wanted to become a nurse, but never did go back to school. She would have made a good nurse as her skill and capabilities with managing illness and doctors was apparent with her immediate family, as well as, Hazelle Weiss's recovery from bypass surgery. Barbara married Charles Thompson and became the mother of four sons. She was a den mother to Robert, Doug and Geoff during their Cub Scout years. She was also active in Little League baseball and was the president of Lutz-Northside Little League in 1974. She was responsible for getting all the boys in the league new uniforms through fund-raising and gifts. Barbara enjoyed knitting and loved to cook and play the accordion. She always hosted the family and extended family for get-togethers at the Thompson Home in Lutz, Florida where many Christmases, Thanksgivings and birthdays were celebrated. Barbara did not have a life-long hobby but rather threw all here efforts into many things for rather short periods. Over the years, she was interested in growing and selling flowers, wood crafts, baking bread, and rescuing dogs, especially Bichon Friese's. She was married to Charles for over 51 years but was divorced in 2007. She moved to Point Pleasant, West Virginia and made her home there. Barbara suffered a stroke in the Fall of 2008 after which it required that she be placed in a convalescent home. She died suddenly in the evening on 2 January 2011, soon after finishing her supper. Her son Robert administered her estate. She asked that her organs be donated and that her body be used for science. She requested that whatever remains be cremated and spread over the ocean. She did not want a memorial or ceremony. Tampa Tribune, The (FL) - January 26, 2011 Deceased Name: THOMPSON , Barbara A.
