Note:   (Research):First name may be Stephanus.
  Stephen is listed on the 1850 Alabama Census, also the 1860, and 1870. After that he went to South Florida. He was a Physician, and was headed to the Seminole Nation to help out during the Yellow Fever Epidemic. As you know the 1890 Census was destroyed. I can only go on family stories as to where he was in Florida. His wife Mary was killed when the wagon they were riding in overturned. She is buried near the Manatee River, Hillsborough County.

  A OneWorld Family Tree entry gives Stephens name as Stephanus and his parents as Jesse and Rachel Haworth Kersey.
  From Desta Dyal Individual Summary, Was a doctor about 1870 buried near Bronson while settled there. Pocahontas was 7, rest of family soon went to near Palmetto on the Manatee River. Her mother and her yound children, Wilda and an older sister called Sister. Grandmother Kersey killed near Riverview whil moving on ox team and wagon and was thrown out, 1 month before Tommy was born in 1887.
