Note: (Research):Pocahantus Emma Kersey b. Aug 6, 1864 married David Washington Thompson Dec 5, 1882. Children were: Thomas J. b April 8, 1887; Bertha G. b. April 19, 1889; Mary L. b. July 21, 1891; Levada T. b. July 31, 1893; Eugene D. b April 19, 1896; Ethel R. b. April 4, 1898; Yola H. b. June 29, 1901. I got this info from Poncahantus's granddaughter who visits Pensacola, but lives in the Tampa area. Source: D. Buffum Format: e-mail sent Wednesday, January 21, 1998 Stephen's children showed up on the 1900 Census. One of them was Pocahontas Emma Kersey. She married A David Thompson. I correspond with Pocahontas's Granddaughter. She tells the same stories that I have heard about our side of the Kersey's. I only met her a few years ago. We heard that we were of the Cherokee Tribe also, but can't find any documentaion on that. Our Stephen was supposed to have been adopted by a white man and educated to be a doctor. That part is true. Pocahontas was 7, rest of family soon went to near Palmetto on the Manatee River. Her mother and her young children, Wilda and an older sister called Sister. Grandmother Kersey killed near Riverview while moving an ox team and wagon and was thrown out, 1 month before Tommy was born in 1887. No Florida record of death, checked July 15, 1987. Great grandparents, no knowledge. Possible Clayton County, Ala. Possible name of Sloan in the family somewhere. Uncle Tommy said Kersey was part Cherokee or maybe full blooded. Siblings were Jasper, who served in the CSA. He married Lizzie ?; Tom and Cora. Tally, shot one time for hog stealing. Wife Mary Tucker; children Lora, Austin, Lessie and Johnny F. Henry, wife Dood; children Dolly, Stella, Emma, Gettis, Emmett, H; Luther, Morgan, possibly others. Ben settled in Pensacola area, grandfather of Mae who was first wife of Thomas Jefferson Thompson. Sister Kersey; child Matilda. Wilda married Stevens; children Lessie, Miller, Theodore and step children.
