Note:   (Research):Found in the Southern Enterprise, Wednesday, July 25, 1860. "Celebration of the 4th at Wynn's Store, Thomas County. Mr. Editor: The 4th of July was passed off with so much enthusiastic feeling and beauty, I wish to give you a short detailed accounty of it: a committee of three, viz: D.F. Pierce, G.W. Wynn, and G. Ferrell, Esqrs. The dinner was prepared at 12 o'clock, all in much decency, graced by many beautiful ladies. At 3, by the arrangement, the Declaration of Independence was read, and suitable remarks made by B. Wynn. The ladies and gentlemen formed something like a hollow square. Mr. Hurst, the Musician, was placed at the stand, on the left of the speaker, and at the close of the sentences, played on the violin most delightful and appropriate music to the time and circumstance, that we could but think the 17th district ahead. Politics was forgotten.-At the close of speaking the firing of guns by rotation, with steady music. And from old bumpers of rye the names of our past, but not forgotten forefathers swelled every breast. We regret we cannot put them all down. Suffice to say, it was a great to all the fair part of the audience in tears remembered the charming Mrs. Elliott, and her equivalents of fair sex of '76, while the firing continued some time; and they then, in the enjoyments of music, spent several hours in gratification to the youthful part of the company, for which time all was one grain the richest and most united and harmonious ever witnessed in the 17th district. Many other charms, without painting, could be added, but we feel so thankful for such receptions, we hope we will not boast by asking a place in your columns for insertion. A Citizen of Thomas."
