Millier says:"There is some question as to where William Slone was buried. A tall marker to "W. W. Slone" is situated at Webster Cemetery, Stuart Chapel. It lists Slone's birth and death as Feb 5, 1822 and Nov 5, 1900. It also says he was "Capt. Co. F 7 Regt Fla Inf/Confederate States Army." The headstone at the Slone cemetery bears the same inscription. However, the Slone cemetery also has William Slone's wife buried nearby. One of the two stones may have been set up as a memorial, rather than the actual burial place of William Slone." Sources: 1. Census 1850: Irwin Co. Ga. Dist #44 Fam370 [William Slone, age 29, Ga.] 2. William W Slone ******************************* Notes from Mary McPherson William W. Slone served for the Confederacy during the Civil War. 1861-1865 he served in Regiment 7 Company A. I do not know where I found the following: On page 31 "In 1852 or 1853, one of the largest group emigrations moved from Irwin County, Georgia to this area. This wagon train was fairly large as it probably contained the Collins, Akins, Fussells, Matchetts, Merits, Slones, Watkins, Whidden, Williams, and Robbins. These families lived near each other either in Georgia or North Carolina. "Most of these families settled in the area between Center Hill and Mascotte, that has become known as "Slone's Ridge". They then spread over south Lake and Sumter Counties. "William W. Slone was one of the prominent members of this group; born in Irwin County, Georgia, February 13,1822. He married Rebecca Ann Williams on April 6,1843. Two hundred acres was in the tract of ?? Slone homesteaded or which he planted citrus groves, farmed and ran cattle. "When Company F, 9th. Regiment of the Florida Militia was formed around 1860, Mr. Slone was chosen Captain of the Company. The duties of this Regiment were to provide the Confederate Army with beef and protect the families and farmers.
