Note:   (Research):THE FLORIDA CHRISTIAN ADVOCATE Tuesday August 6,1889 Mrs. Rebecca Jane Slone was born in Irvin County Georgia and came to (now) Lake County, Florida in 1855. Early in life she was fortunately married to Captain W.W. Slone, with whom she lived in that relation forty seven years, with a wifely devotion only found in truly Christian women. Their relation was blessed with seven sons and nine daughters, five of whom preceeded her to the "bright beautiful heaven". She was an affectionate mother in all that the sweet term implied and her capabilities permitted. The spirit of general benevalence also adorned her character. She advacated herding the needy and whenever opportunities presented themselves her compassion was moved. She was never known to fail in contributing something for their relief. She became a member of the M.E. Church South, in 1858, and early realized that she had passed from death unto life. This the general tendency of her life clearly demonstrated. The ministers of the Gospel always received abundant welcome from her, and when there was no places to worship in her vicinity, religious services were frequently held in her house. She loved God and his people. This writer had an opportunity of hearing her talk in an experience meeting, during which she stated emphatically that she knew that God "for Christ Jesus sake" pardoned all of her sins..long ago. Her faith was strong and vivid that she would at some time taste heavenly joys and be fully satisfied. In 1889 she contracted a severe cold which developed in to pneumonia, and death immediately became extremely imminent. The best accessible medical assistance was procured, special care exercised and all possible auxilaries employed, but all failed to effect. By. L. Jameson
