Note: It is known that George and Margaret (Brown) McMillan had 10 children to include sons named Charles, James and Richard. Charles, James and Richard McMillan appear on the 1881 Canadian census for Bloomfield, Prince County, Prince Edward Island. Both Charles and James are married and have families and lived on adjacent farms. Richard, the youngest child of George and Margaret, is living in the home of his brother Charles. From the 1881 census, these three gentleman have nearly identical dates of birth compared with the known dates of birth for George and Margaret McMillan's children. On the 1891 Canadian Census for Prince Co., Lot 5, again we have Charles' family, but his mother Margaret is now living there. She is a widow, of Scotland, and is 80 years old. The 1891 and 1901 census report shows that Charles is from Ontario.

Note: (Research):Scottish naming customs The general custom, to which there were some variations, was to name children as follows: The eldest son after the paternal grandfather The second eldest son after the maternal grandfather The third eldest son after the father The eldest daughter after the maternal grandmother The second eldest daughter after the paternal grandmother The third daughter after the mother One variation from the above was for the eldest son to be named after the mother's father and eldest daughter after the father's mother. In this case the second son would be named after the father's father and the second daughter after the mother's mother. Cambuslang, town and parish in north of Lanarkshire.
