At any rate, I came across your History of Okeechobee County work this evening and there were several references and photos of Thompson's who are very close to me on the family tree. Most of my Thompson family remained in Hillsborough County, after moving from Thomas County, Georgia; however, Alexander Lewis (Alec) Thompson moved to Basinger, Okeechobee County. He married Mary H. Wright there and fathered Abner Douglas, Kirby and Emma Lou Thompson. You have Alec's photograph and a photo of his three children on your website. Too much!
It would appear that you interviewed Douglas Thompson for the information that you presented. He is listed in the bibliography as a resource person. Douglas is my first cousin, twice removed. I was wondering if you still had your notes from that interview or anything of that sort that you could share. The photo of Alexander Thompson and the 1923 Graduating Class of Okeechobee High School are in pretty good shape, but I was also wondering if you had a better digital image.
My family does not know the Okeechobee Thompson's but anything that you could provide would be great. I am afraid Douglas Thompson is probably dead by now, as you conducted your interview before 1978 and he was born in 1904. Perhaps he mentioned the name of his children.
Looking forward to hearing from you again. Geoff From: Kyle S. VanLandingham [vanlanfl@earthlink.net] Sent: Monday, January 16, 2006 1:26 PM To: Geoffrey Thompson Cc: Bobbie Wilson Subject: Re: History of Okeechobee County
  Hi Geoff,
I remember Douglas Thompson quite well. I have not lived in Okeechobee since 1987 but I am quite certain that Douglas is deceased by now. He was a very nice person and very knowledgeable about Florida and local Okeechobee history. I don't have any notes from our meetings but I recall that we always had a nice visit at the annual Alderman reunions held at Basinger during the 1970s. I recall that his maternal grandfather, Abner Wright, a Confederate soldier, is buried at Basinger and I suspect Douglas may be buried there.
As for the picture of the OHS graduating class, I don't have a better copy than the one you saw on the internet.
I am copying this to a cousin in Okeechobee who may have some knowledge of Douglas' immediate family.
  Kyle
