Note:   (Research):The name index for the 1850 U.S. Federal Census Record for Thomas County has Miriam as the oldest child of Uriah and Martha Brasswell; however, it rather appears to be William.
Green is enumerated on the 1860 United States Census Record for Thomas Co., Georgia. He is enumerated on the last line of page 99 in household number 795. The next page is numbered 100; however, the next household is 810 and does not fit the previous sequence. Consequently, Melvina and children are not enumerated in 1860.

Ochlocknee, Thomas County, Georgia was founded about 1860. It was a small settlement where most of my Thomas County ancestor's resided. Construction of a railway line between Thomasville and Albany was proposed in 1869. Several locations for construction of the depot were considered. Three sites were settled upon and the final site may have been chosen based on petitions obtained by the people of Ochlocknee. Two petitions were circulated and signed, and the following family names can be found in Petition A and Petition C.

Regarding her date of death and burial location. That conclusion is based upon an entry in Craigmiles Survey of Thomas County, Georgia Cemeteries, p. 96. On that page is an entry for Elvira B. Thompson (sic Melvina Braswell Thompson). Since Craigmiles published his survery the grave has received a new marker and it has Elvin A. B. Thompson. The marker is "temporary", that is, it was manufactured in plastic and cemented to the slab. The other Thompson's buried there are Melvina's son, daughter-in-law, and grand daughter

  RE: Midway Baptist Church Cemetery
  Dear Sir or Ma'am,
My name is Dr. Geoffrey Thompson and I am writing to you about the Midway Baptist Church Cemetery. I live in Illinois now; however, I do have Aunts, Uncles and cousins buried in the church cemetery. I have a question and then a request. My question is, does the church have records of those buried in the cemetery? My request is to possibly have a monument renamed.
Currently in the cemetery is one Elvin A. Thompson. Craigmiles iSurvey of Thomas County Cemeteries/i, published in 1990 had Elvina Thompson. I believe these two people are the same; however, the correct name should be Melvina Thompson. My proof is, 1) there was never an Elvin A. or Elvina Thompson in Thomas County; 2) Melvina (Elvin A.) is buried next to her son, Edgar C. Thompson; 3) both Edgar and Melvina (Elvin A.) are surrounded by Braswell's. Emmett, Augustus, Sally and Uriah are Melvina's brother's and sister's. What I think has happened, is that the inscription on the monument faded and a marker was made using someone's best guess. I have visited the cemetery several times and there is nothing on the original monument that is decipherable and the marker placed by Dekle Funeral Home is fairly new. If the Church has records, then that could prove that Elvin A. is indeed Melvina.
I am writing on behalf of myself and a descendant of Melvina Thompson and we would both appreciate your consideration. Thank you for your attention.
  Sincerely yours,
  Dr. Geoffrey A. Thompson
