Notes
a. Note:   John Spradling was a Revolutionary War Soldier. See his Gallery for the proof. Records support that the John in James 'Jack's Will was this John Spradling, b. 1 Jan 1748, Amelia Co., VA, who stated in his Revolutionary War Pension Application that he was born in Amelia Co., VA and lived there for about 18 or19 years before moving to Halifax Co., VA, that he lived there for about 10 years and then moved to Wilkes Co., NC before moving to Warren Co., TN in about 1813. This pretty much mirrors James and Mary (Echols) Spradling's records. James was listed in several records in Amelia Co., VA from 1745 to 1752. He was appointed executor of brother, Joseph' estate in Halifax Co., VA in 1767. James 'Jack' was listed in several records from 1770 to 1777 in Halifax Co., VA, before moving to Burke & Wilkes Co., NC around 1778 where he lived until he died in Wilkes Co., NC in 1808.
18 Apr 1776 Halifax Co., VA Deed Book 10, p. 69; James Spradling of Halifax Co. sells to John Spradling for 10 lbs, tract on Burchs Creek, 100 acres.
15 May 1776 Halifax Co., VA Deed Book 10, p. 125; James Henry of Accomack Co., VA sells to James Spradling a tract on 2nd fork of Burchs Crk beginning on W. fork of James Moore's, Henry's Mill; 400 acres for 21 yrs. for 30 shillings per year. James Spradling must plant 500 peach trees and 500 apple trees, build a house and outbuildings. Witn: Sam Slate, John Spradling, Charles Spradling. (John and Charles were likely James' sons.)
There was a John Spradling in a Halifax Co., VA record in 1779 which may have been this John or it may have been Jonathan "John" Spradling's son, John, who was born in this area sometime between 1747 and 1768 when Jonathan died. Revolutionary Soldier John's father James "Jack" Spradling had already moved to North Carolina by this time and was listed in some records there in 1778.
Wilkes Co., NC, 8 April 1798 Between Robert Bogle Iredell Co NC and Samuel Allen 50 lbs 150 acres Warrior Creek joining Frances Elledges line.. Hicks Cabbin.. Robert Bogle Wits; George Brown, Esq. John x Spradling Thomas x Scott (From MaryAnne McCullough)
Listed in the 1800 Wilkes Co., NC Census, Morgan Twp, p. 483. His father, James Spradlin, 1 male under 5 and 1 male 45+ was listed on the same page. A Jesse Spradling was listed on the same page, probably not the son of Joseph Edgar Spradling because his Jesse was listed in several Sumner Co., TN records before 1800. Jesse, here, may have been John's son. Most of John's children have not been clearly identified.
Wilkes Co Land Entries Nov. 1796-1805
1374- April 10, 1801 John Spradling enters 200 acres in Wilkes Co on Waters of Lower Little River border begain at Ivy br. near James Beavers's line on East side of the tract where said Beaver lives and runs East inludes the beat vacant land thereabouts (From MaryAnne McCullough)
  Listed in the 1810 Wilkes Co., NC Census, p. 879. 1 male 45+, 1 female 10 -15, 1 female 26 - 44, 1 female 45+.
Warren Co., TN, 28 Mar 1809: A William Spradling surveyed land for James Bright, 237 Acres, H Cold Water C, on S side Elk R. CC Benj Harris & Wm Spradling--Tract includes McCullochs C & near Dripping Spring. [Warren Co., TN, TN 2nd Surveyor's Dist.] This Willam may have been the son of John, here. As can be seen above, John was living in Wilkes Co., NC. In 1813 he moved to Warren Co., TN Where he died in 1835.
A William Spradling, b. bet 1780-1790, was listed in the 1840 Graves Co., KY Census. His family states that he lived in Warren Co., TN and believe that he is the son of John, here. William's descendant matched three descendants of Obediah Spradlin(g), b. bet. 1760-1770, VA one genetic distance from an exact DNA match on FamilyTreeDNA. He also matched a descendant of William (b. 1795, NC) and Frances Spradling one genetic distance from an exact DNA match. The latter William was either the son or grandson of John, here. He also matched a known descendant of Joseph Edgar Spradling one genetic distance from an exact DNA match on FamlyTreeDNA. (Brothers can match this close)
Warren County in the War of 1812.
The only complete muster roll found of 1812 was that of Capt. Asabel [Asahel] Rains. This company was a part of the Second Regiment, West Tennessee Militia, commanded by Col. Alexander Lowrey and Lieut. Col. Leroy Hammonds. Captain Rains, company was, with his regiment, mustered into service at Fayetteville, Tennessee on September 20, 1814 and served until December 31, of the same year. The roll, as found in the Barnes papers, follows: (Several men were listed in the roll including a William Spradlin. Since William b. 1795 would have only been about 17, this William may have been the William in the preceding paragraph who surveyed land in 1809.)
16 Jun 1825 Warren Co., TN Land Records: [Warren County, Tennessee Plat Book Volume 1 1824-1827-Records, Page 124-125. William Spradling surveyed land for John Spradlin(g) 15 acres dated 26 Jun 1824 No. 194 on the headwaters of Hickory Creek adjoining David? Spradlin(g) and district line, Cumberland Mountain. James Cargiles line. Surveyed by Wm. Spradling & Isaac Wharton, CC. Wm. M. Douglas, DS.
Also, in the same Plat Book Volume above: William Spradling surveyed land for John Spradling 127 acres (there not being a sufficiency within the calls of location to fill his entry, it being for 130 acres) entry 4 February 1826. No. 1585 on the waters of Hickory Creek adjoining his own land on the east, south boundary of Kincheon Matthews (now David Colson's), corner of Shadrick Tribble's, corner of John Sayles, NE corner of the said John Spradling, Joshua Horton & Wm. Spradling, CC. A. Higginbotham, SWC.
It's not clear whether William in the two paragraphs above, was his son or grandson. William Spradling, b. Bet. 1780-1790, d. Bef. 1850 in Graves Co., KY may have been his son, and this William his grandson. A descendant of the Graves Co., KY William was a close DNA match with a descendant of the former William, b. 1795, NC, on FamilyTreeDNA. William's family believes that he was John's son because he lived in Warren Co., TN before he moved to Kentucky and all of his children were born in Tennessee.
Lived near William Spradling, David Spradling, James Spradling & Charles Spradling on Hickory Creek according to Warren Co., TN land records. David was probably Agnes' David, who was listed in the 1820 Warren Co., TN Census.
James Spradling, b. 1796, NC, son of Obediah Spradlin(g), b. bet. 1760-1770, VA, entered the War of 1812 in Warren Co., TN at about age 18, so Obediah may have been John's son as he must have lived there at this time, too. DNA tests support this fact.
Listed in the 1830 Warren Co., TN Census, p. 342. 1 male 80 - 90, 2 males under 5, 1 male 30 - 40. Son, Charles, was listed on page 343. Son, or grandson, William, was probably listed on p. 362. George Washington Spradling, son of Agnes Spradling's son, David was listed on the same page.
Tennessee Pensioners, p. 104: Spradling, John; 1832 list age 86 (When he died) served in NC line; drew pension in Warren County. (See his Revolutionary War Pensi0n Record in his Gallery)
A descendant of William Spradling, b. 1795, Wilkes Co., NC, a descendant of Revolutionary War Soldier John Spradling, here, matched a descendant of William Spradley/Spradling, b. bet. 1796-1800, Georgia or Alabama, Mississippi Territory, whose family lived in Madison Co., Arkansas, on 45 of 46 DNA markers on AncestryDNA. (Brothers can match this close.) The former William was either Rev. Soldier John's son or grandson. He lived next to him on Hickory Creek and surveyed land for him. Another descendant of the latter William matched the former William, above, one genetic distance from an exact DNA marker match on FamilyTreeDNA. This descendant matched the DNA of four descendants of Andrew 'Bryant' Spradley and one descendant of Charles II Spradley/Spradling exactly on FamilyTreeDNA. According to Joseph Edgar Spradling's old Bible, James 'Jack' Spradling, Joseph Edgar Spradling, Charles II Spradley/Spradling and Andrew 'Bryant' Spradley were brothers.
