Notes
a. Note:   According to their son Joseph Edgar's Old Bible, Charles and Agnes had six children, James, Joseph E., John, Matilda, Charles, and Andrew B. (James "Jack" Spradling, b. Abt. 1725, Hanover Co., VA, d. 7 Feb 1808, Wilkes Co., NC, wife, Mary Echols, Joseph Edgar Spradling, b. Abt. 1728, Hanover Co., VA, d. Sep 1767, Halifax Co., VA, wife, Susanna Sneed, Johnathan "John" Spradling, b. Abt. 1720-1728, Hanover Co., VA, d. 28 Sep 1768, Pittsylvania Co., VA, wife, Mary Womack, Matilda, nothing is known about her except she was named in Jonathan "John" Spradling's Will, Charles II Spradling/Spradley, b. Abt. 1730-1735, Hanover Co., VA, d. 1783, Camden, SC, 1st wife, unknown, 2nd wife, Martha, and Andrew "Bryant" Spradley, b. 1737, Hanover Co., VA, d. 8 Oct 1817, Camden, SC., wife, Jane Dillard.)
DNA tests confirm this old Bible information.
Jonathan "John" was born between 1720 - 1728, Hanover Co., VA, died 28 Sep 1768 in Pittsylvania Co., VA (formed from Halifax Co., on 6 Nov 1766) wife, Mary Womack, born about 1728, VA, died before 1803 in South Carolina. According to her uncle William Womack's disputed will their children and grandchildren lived in Franklin Co., GA and parts west of there in 1803. The only child named was Oliver Spradling, but they had other children according to this will. The will stated that Mary's sister Elizabeth (Womack) Cawthon was age 90 in 1816 and living in Franklin Co., GA. (See information below. Charles Spradling, b. 1755, Halifax Co., VA, wife, Minnie Moore, may have been their son. They lived there in 1755 about the time he was born. A descendant of Charles' son, James S. Spradlin(g), b. 1794, VA matched six descendants of Charles & Agnes Spradling one genetic distance from an exact DNA match (Brothers can match this close) and matched several of their other descendants two genetic distances from an exact match.)
Two descendants of Jonathan and Mary Spradling, here, matched four descendants of Andrew "Bryant" Spradley, a descendant of Charles Spradley/Spradling, and a descendant of William Spradley/Spradling, probably the son of Joseph Spradling, son of Joseph Edgar, one genetic distance from an exact DNA match on FamilyTreeDNA. (Brothers can match this close.) They closely matched ten other Spradlings, Spradlins and Spradleys on the Spradlin(g)/Spradley DNA Project on FamilyTreeDNA. There is over a 99% probability they have a common Spradlin(g)/Spradley ancestor.
Apparently, the family lived near the Halifax Co., VA and Pittsylvania Co.,VA county line. .
Jonathan's Will left property to brothers, Andrew and Charles, and sister, Matilda.
After John's death Mary and the family moved to the Carolinas, probably with Mary's sister's family, Charles & Elizabeth (Womack) Cawthon, who moved to Tyron Co., NC and bought land there 21 Jul 1769. (The original area of Tryon County encompassed the following modern day areas: The entire areas of: Cleveland County, Gaston County, Lincoln County, Rutherford County, North Carolina, and Cherokee County, Chester County, Laurens County, Spartanburg County, Union County, York County, South Carolina)
Mary and family later moved to South Carolina where Mary died. Their sons, John, David, Oliver, and William apparently moved to Burke Co., NC and were listed in records there between 1778 and 1790. The children and grandchildren lived in Franklin Co., GA in 1803, and parts west of there, according to court records involving a dispute over William Womack's Will. William was Mary's uncle. (Note: Franklin County, Georgia was established on 25 Feb 1784 from Cherokee Cession on 31 May 1783 and 1 Nov 1783.) Sons, John, David, and Oliver were listed in several Franklin County, Georgia records after 1800. William probably died about 1798 in North Carolina.
Capt. John Nash Tithables Lists: Amelia Co., VA.
Charles Spradling appears on the lists from 1743 to 1752. James Spradling appears 1743-1748. John Spradling, who married Elizas [Womack) sister Mary, appears on the 1747 to 1753 lists. Other Womacks in the neighborhood were Charles father-in-law, Abraham Sr. who was on the 1746-1750 lists. But he received a Patent in Amelia in July of 1745. He was constable for the years of 1747 and 1749. His son Abraham Jr. was there from 1746-1753. Thomas was on the 1751 and 1753 lists.
It was a year after Charles Cawthon arrived in Amelia County, before Abraham arrives with his good looking daughters. It looks like Charles and Eliza marry fairly soon after the Abraham Womacks arrive looking at the approximate ages that their children are born. John Spradlin and Mary Womack must have married after he arrived around 1747.
Located in the Amelia County, Deed Books are the three people who eventually sell Charles his land when he purchases land into Halifax County, Virginia in 1760. They are Paulin and Richard Anderson who are at this time from King & Queen Co., Virginia. John Watkins who witnessed a deed is the third person. John Spradling, Eliza Cawthons brother-in-law witnesses a Deed in Amelia County in 1752. (Above three paragraphs are from the COTHERN CLAN by Jean (May) Mayo-Rodwick)

The following is extracted from The Cothern Clan by Jean (May) Mayer-Rodwick:
Elizabeth Womack Cawthon's uncle, William Womack, died in 1790 in Charlotte Co, VA. He was around 80 years old, and although he had married at least twice, he had no children. He had a fairly large estate of land and slaves. Some of that went to his widow, but the rest was split between his siblings. However, most of his siblings were dead by 1790, so it went to their children or grandchildren. There were several chancery cases in Charlotte Co, VA (which can be found on the Library of
Virginia site) involving William Womack's estate. The Virginia Historical Society has the Asa Dupuy papers. Asa Dupuy was one of the many people who administered William Womack's estate, and his papers, along with the Charlotte Co, VA chancery cases, are a wealth of information on a large part of the Womack family.
Frederick Stevilie was Elizabeth Womack Cawthon's lawyer, and he corresponded with Asa Dupuy in letters transcribed in the Cothern book PDF. In one letter dated 23 Apr 1814, he mentions John and Mary (Womack) Spradling's children and grandchildren all lived in the uppermost parts of Georgia, and are all seperated by removal! to Different parts of the the Western Country, that the Cost would overrun the profit, to attempt to collect their parts [long blot] There are some of the Grand Children of John Spradlin living in Franklin Co., Georgia.
