a. Note:   nt. He joined the regiment in India where it had been deployed since 1842. He participated in their actions including the most significant of this time, "The Battle of Lucknow". On September 25, 1857, during the main battle leading up to the recapture of the British Residency, he was struck in the left leg by a round shot. This shattered his left leg below the knee and ultimately led to the amputation of this leg. Being now unfit for further duty he was discharged from the regiment on August 18, 1858 at Rohilcund, India and return to Scotland. He immigrated to Canada in 1861? and took up residence in Wingham, Turnberry Twp., Huron County, Ontario. He became the station agent for the Grand Trunk Railway and post master in Glenannan, Turnberry Twp., Huron County, Ontario. He also ran the stage coach between Glenannan station (GTR) to the Wingham station. Glenannan is a few miles northeast of Wingham. He was a farmer and postmaster and settled in Canada in Lot 13, Concession 10, Glenannan, Turnberry. He was a postmaster there from May 1 1875 until his death in 1879. Glen Annan is another spelling. In 1871 he his wife Annie, children Peter, James and Isabella are living in Turnberry, Huron North, Ontario.
