Notes
a. Note:   Gregor Seiler seems to be the patriarch of 'our' branch of the Seiler clan in America.
The information about his family was culled from the 1870 census, W18, page 32, for Hamilton County, Ohio. He and his family lived at that time on the west side of Western Avenue between Bank Street and Harrison Avenue. There is no information available as to how or when either Gregor or Wilhelmina arrived in Cincinnati. The researcher suspects that, due to the variance in their ages, Gregor may have had a wife prior to Wilhelmina. If so, no records remain.
The census shows him at age 60, and identifies him as a laborer born in Baden, Germany.
His wife, Wilhelmina Joerker, also from Baden, was then 45.
This same census shows their children: Christian Seiler, age 23, a laborer; Mary Seiler, age 17, a seamstress; Caroline Seiler, age 15, 'at home'; Jacob Seiler, age 10, attending school; Eliza Seiler, age 8, attending school; and Catherine Seiler, age 2.
All the children were born in Ohio.
Gregory was 77 at his death on March 4, 1886. he was living then on Colerain Avenue.
On July 12, 1999, I visited St. Mary's Cemetery on Ross Avenue in St. Bernard, a suburb of Cincinnati, and took the enclosed photographs.
