Notes
a. Note:   Mary Kalb (April 9, 1862- October 27, 1912) was a daughter of Dorothy Bremm and George Kalb. She was the mother of Dorothy Vanduzen, a product of her first marriage, September 7, 1879, to Peter Vanduzen, and Chris Buehler, a child by her second husband, Nickolaus Buehler.
Interestingly enough, in the 1880 census Mary is shown as the head of household, with a three-month old daughter, Dorah. She retains the surname Vanduzen although Peter is, apparently, gone from her life. There is no record of whatever became of him. No record of a death or divorce exists.
When Mary re-married, to Nicholaus Biehler/Buehler on September 16, 1884, her name on their marriage license has reverted back to Kalb (or maybe even Kolb...people weren't too interested in accuracy then, apparently). How can this be? Had she divorced Peter Vanduzen? Were they ever married? There is no marriage license available, only the announcement in the German newspaper 'Der Cincinnati Freie Presse'.
At any rate, Buehler adopted Dora; thus her name in later years, prior to her own marriage, was Dora Buehler. Buehler himself died Ocober 17, 1896.
Mary's last residence was 23 Back Street. She died October 27, 1912, a widow, at age 50 years, 6 months and 18 days, of acute bronchitis and pleurisy. Her funeral was held at St. Francis Church.
An interesting note is that her death notice in both the English and German-speaking newspapers in Cincinnati requested that her notice be copied in the St. Louis, Missouri papers. Why?
She was interred October 31, 1912, in St. Mary's Cemetery in St. Bernard. Her grave is in Lot 19, Section 8, as is that of her second husband.
There is also another name given as a surname on her death certificate but nowhere else: Goeldner. This is inexplicable inasmuch as her son, Chris Buehler of 906 Hopkins Street, was the informant on her death certificate.
