Note: Peter Vanduzen is a mystery. His marriage to Mary Kalb was announced in the 'Sonntagsblatt der Cincinnati Freie Presse' on September 7, 1879. No additional material has been found about him. He was the father, apparently, of Dora Vanduzen. Interestingly enough, only six months seem to have elapsed between the marriage and her birth. Where did he come from, and how did they meet? His name does not appear in any Cincinnati records according to research done in January of 1999. By the time of the 1880 census, Vanduzen seems to have disappeared, as Mary Kalb Vanduzen is shown as a nineteen-year-old head of household with a three-month old daughter, Dorah. Did he die? Did he leave her? Were they divorced? It seems unlikely that anyone will ever know, although the evidence would seem to indicate that he died, inasmuch as no record of a divorce has ever been found. But then again, neither has a death notice or a burial certificate.
