Note: Information: Book Captain Michael Pierce, Including One Line of Descent, by Martha Stuart Helligso,1981, pages 27 - 32. This book states that Daniel & Mary moved to the vicinity of Lanesborough in the western part of MA where he served in the Rev. War. Part of his services included marching in Captain Daniel Brown's Company on the alarm from Lanesborough to Pawlet beginning Sept. 5, 1777. They moved from Lanesborough before 1783 to Kingsbury, NY. Kingsbury was located in the Western Territory called Old Charlotte Co., NY,. After the Rev. it was divided up and renamed Washington County, Warren County, and part to Vermont. This may explain why Daniel at different times was noted as living in Vermont and NY. He was one of first settlers. The Town Meetings of Hartford, NY from 1797 to 1830 contain his name as a "fence viewer and damage priser" or "Highway Commissioner." In Town Records, 1801, a list of each highway district with man's name including the number of days he was taxed to work on the road. Daniel Pierce, District 36, was taxed 4 1/2 days; in 1803 he was taxed 6 days. He was active in the Hartford Baptist Church. Abt 1831 he sold his land and moved to Castile NY with sons, Truman and Mial, having settled there ealier. Book - Vital Records of Rehoboth, MA, by Arnold James, page 177 - "3 353 Mary Hix of Rehoboth and Daniel Peirce of Swanzey, married by Elder Nathan Pearse Oct. 31, 1773. Intentions 12 Aug. 1773" Book - A History of New England With Particular Reference to the Baptists, by Isaac Backus, 1969, page 439 "Two Baptist churches have also been formed in Rehoboth, which refused to commune with any baptized persons but those who had laying on of hands and prayer after baptism. They likewise excluded singing in their public worship, as most of the old Baptists in New England did, before our great reformation. In oder to form the first of these churches, above thirty persons were dismissed from the Second church in Swansea and formed a church in Rehoboth, and ordained Mr. Daniel Martin as their pastor, Feb 8, 1753; and MR. NATHAN PIERCE was soon ordained a colleague with him. Elder Pierce died in 1794. This shows that Daniel Pierce and Mary Hix were Baptists. This book lists possible other daughters. A Charlotte (Lotta) who married Shubeal Barber. Lotta is mentioned in the Hartford Baptist Church records along with entries about Daniel's family both as Charlotte and later as Charlotte Barber. When Charlotte Barber applied for a War of 1812 widow's pension, Seneca Co., OH, it was Dyer Pierce (Daniel's son) who vouched. Shuebeal Barber died in Sandusky Co., OH on 11 Aug. 1840. Book - History of Walworth County, WI, Vol 1, 1912, Chapter XXII - Town of Delavan, page 252, 253: "Truman Pierce (1787 - 1866) bouthg in Section 31. His wife, Lucy, was born in 1793. Two of his sons-in-law were Kirtland G. Wright and Calvin Carrington. He and his mother, Mary (1755-1852), were buried at East Delavan." Other people from Washington Co., (relatives?) noted is "Ira C., John (born 1852) and Samuel Utter (1807 - 1898) were sons of Abraham Utter and Marinda Beardsley, of Washington Co., NY. "About 1843, Truman Pierce, Samuel Utter, Kirtland G. Wright, and Calvin Carrington, farmers living near the intersection of the highway between Delava and Lake Geneva, with the north and south road dividing section 25 from section 26 chose that point as one convient for a store, repair shops and whatever else might develop there. Census Records - 1810 Hartford, Washington Co., NY Page 64 - Daniel Pierce 1 male10-16, 1 male 16-26, 1 male 45 +, 1 female 0-10, 1 female 45 +. On page 65 notes Shuber Barber with 2 males 0-10, 1 male 26-45, 1 female 26-45. 1820 Hartford, Washington Co., NY page 136A Daniel Pierce 1 male 45 +, 1 female 45 + 1830 Hartford, Washington Co., NY page 294- obviously Daniel and Mary resided with son Truman Pierce family, noted as 1 male 70-80, and 1 female 70-80. Huldah's age on gravestone is 89. That would make her born in 1788. Her first child Horace was born in June 1800, making this unlikely. From census records, her birth was between 1775 - 1784. Ages of children of Daniel and Mary are from the LDS Ancestral File. The book, Capt. Michael Pierce including One Line of Descent, has Isaac birth as 14 Nov. 1775, Dyer born 2 April 1785, and Daniel birth as 17 Jan. 1793. Two different birth years for Isaac, 1775 and 1776. Info: LDS Ancestral File Info on Daniel H. Pierce family from a descendent Russell S. Beckwith, MI. Book - Cemetery Records, The Township of Hartford, Washington Co., NY The parents of Mary Hicks/Hix are unknown. Different researchers have different ideas. Here are a few: From Harriet Woodbury Hodge, Glencoe IL, author of the book "Hicks (Hix) Families of Rehoboth and Swansea, MA," 1976 - Mary is not the daughter of Isaac Hicks as she was "of Rehoboth" in 1773 at here marriage, and there were two Isaac Hicks in the 1774 Rhode Island census, none in Rehoboth. Mary was to young not to live with her family. She may be the granddaughter of John Hicks of Swansea who in his will written 10 Dec. 1773 names a granddaughter Mary. Must be the child of deceased son William Hicks and Elizabeth Gibbs, married 15 Feb. 1738. Some of their 8 children resided in Swansea-Rehoboth area in 1773. Mildred Stout - Daughter of Isaac Hicks (Daniel 3, Daniel 2, Thomas of Scituate, MA) and Mary Luther, daughter of Theophilus 3 (Samuel 2, Capt John 1). Hired researcher from Logan, UT - Notes a book "Might Liberty Men" by Sue Ellen Snape where it mentions an Isaac Hix in Rehoboth. He would have been in his 60's, many older men served in Rev. War. It shows that Isaac Hix was living in Rehoboth at the time Mary Hix married Daniel Pierce. Also, they named their first son Isaac. From book "On August 12, a company of men drafted from the area marched to camp at Dorchester. Most were from Rehoboth, including camptain, Isaac Hicks (Hix) of Anawan Street, and First Lieutenant Abdiel Bliss who lived at the corner of New and Winthrop Streets." Ltc Gayle D. Hix, Houston TX - daughter of Truman B. Hix (B: 6 Dec. 1784) and Charlotte Rockwell. Unknown researcher - related to Moses Hix and wife Mary Goff Married 1754 in Rehoboth. Moses, the father was in Hossick, NY in 1790 and Hebron, Washington Co., NY in 1800. Son Simeon marched in Lanesborough, MA, lived in Sunderland VT from 1783 - 1855. Asa, brother of Sismeon was in Granville and Hartford, Washington Co., NY. Martin, another brother was in Hartford in 1800. Moses, Jr, another brother was in Pawlet VT then Swanton VT. Moses was probably the son of Ephraim Hix and Mary Galusha or, Nathaniel Hicks and Abigail Smith, OR, Ephraim Hicks and Sarah Kingsley (Mayflower line). Mary Goff was the daughter of James and Mary(Ormsbee) Goff
