Note: LEWIS NUNN AGASSIZ. Lewis Nunn Agassiz was the second son of Lewis Agassiz, of Stour Lodge, Bradfield, Essex. He was born at Bradfield, 24th December, 1827. On 20th August, 1844, he entered the Royal Welsh Fusiliers as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant on 16th April, 1847. In 1852 he resigned, and [after an unsuccessful attempt at farming in Prince Edward Island] settled in British Columbia, where he founded the town of Agassiz, on the Canadian Pacific Railway, about seventy miles from Vancouver. He married at London, Ontario, Canada, on 24th March, 1852, Mary Caroline Schram, daughter of Peter Schram, a Canadian. The Schram famiIy are what are known in Canada as a United Empire Loyalist family. That is, they sided with the English during the War of American Independence. The Schrams took part in that war, and after peace was made left Boston, where they had previously lived, and went to Canada. During the war of 1812-14 they fought again on the side of the English. Married at Agassiz, B.C., on 27th November, 1876, John Goodfellow, a banker. [Died 1935. (See Memories of Pioneer Life in British Columbia, by Mrs. Goodfellow, an account of the family's life in the 1860s and '70s.)] Jane Vaudine Caroline, born at Westminster, Ontario, 26th August 1856. Married at Agassiz B.C., on 27,th December, 1890, to Ewen Cluny MacPherson (1851 - 1932).[ Mrs. Macpherson died at Vancouver in 1916.] James Burwell, born 30th April, 1858. Mary Louisa, born at Hope, B. C., 31st January, 1863. [Died 1930.] Constance Teresa, born at Hope, B.C., 18th March, 1864. [Died 1947.] Richard Roland, born 10th December, 1865. Eleanor Maud, born at Agassiz, B.C., 21st October, 1867. Luella Beatrice, born at Agassiz B.C., 23rd September, 1869. Married at Agassiz, BC, John Ruyter Brown [who built the first hotel at Harrison Hot Springs], 5th June, 1888. [Died 1954.] Edith Harrison, born at Agassiz, B.C., 29th October, 1872. [Died 1951.] Mr. Lewis Nunn Agassiz died at Acre, Syria, while on a tour of the world, on 24th July, 1880.
