Note: Came to Sorel, Quebec, with her son Henry after American Revolution about 1773. Settled initially at Cataraqui, Ont, then came to Rednersville. Married Frederick Swartfager, had no offspring with him. Inherited his land, left it to son Henry. Milburn McLean says, "The first Hermon to come to Canada, or Upper Canada as it was known then, was Mrs. T. (Lawson) Hermon and her son Henry. The husband T. Hermon died supporting the British cause. Mrs. Hermon later married a Frederick Swartfager (U.E.L.) and a soldier who served in the King's Royal Regiment of New York. There were no children from this marriage and when Frederick died he willed all his possessions to his stepson Henry. Margaret married a third time to a Mr. Johnston and lived in Thurlow Township near Belleville, Ont.. Margaret lived to a ripe old age of 106 and was remarkable for her cheerful, genial disposition. At one time she raised turkeys." Lawson sounds like an English or Scottish name, but there are records of a Dutch immigrant named Peter Lassing who lived in Orange County, whose name was later anglicized to Lawson. Margaret might have come from his family.
