a. Note:   John was the eldest son of Leonard and Margareth Cross Fite. Moved with parents to Lincoln County NC in 1787 and to Tenn is 1796. Had 12 children by Nancy Smith; remarried Mary Evans with no issue. In 1861, only five of his children were living. He died in Dallas Co, AR just prior to the Civil War. He was living with his sons at the time. Two of his daughters married Mr. Watts and Mr. Foster and lived in Dallas Co.
  Joesph Fite was the second son of Leonard and Margareth and born in 1790. Married Betsy Overall in Tenn. They had 12 children, moved to Texas, and had five sons and five grandsons in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. In 1861, he had ten children living. One of his daughters married a Mr. Linnock.
