a. Note:   Tsun Usdi and later Kuwiskuwi WHERE BURIED: Ross Cemetery, Park Hill, Okla. BIO: Elected First Principal Chief of the Cherokee in 1828. Re-elected every four years, nine times with the last being in 1864 at the age of seventy-four. Though only 1/8 Cherokee (by blood) he was raised by his mother and grandmother in the traditional way of the Cherokee, thus giving him the continued support ofthe full-blood faction throughout the years. He married a young lady, Mary Brian Stapler, from Wilmington, Delaware five years (1844) after his beloved Quatie died on the infamous "Trail of Tears." He passed away while on tribal business in Washington, D.C. (at Joy's Boarding House - Eighth and Pennsylvania Avenue). Cause of death was jaundice.
