a. Note:   GEN: Jacob enlisted in the Civil War on August 13, 1861 and Mustered out on August 19, 1864. He enlisted into Benton's Hussars U.S. GEN: Army then his unit was changed to B Company 5th Regiment, Missouri Calvary. He fought in the Battle of Pea Ridge on March GEN: 2, 3, & 4 1862 in North GEN: Western Arkansas near the Missouri State line. In 1862 he was transfered to D Company 4th Regiment, Missouri Calvary (2M GEN: Dept.) as GEN: a teamster in Pilot Knob, Missouri. He then went back to farming after he was mustered out in 1864. GEN: On November 5, 1864, Jacob was admitted to the rights and privileges of a naturalized citizen. GEN: It is possible that Jacob arrived in the US on April 12, 1854. NAME: Jakob Straub BIRTH: We believe he was from Kondenbern Switzerland (Canton Bern). DEATH: Jacob Straub was shot in the face by his son-in-law George W. Stinebaker on Jan. 17, 1895. The paper reported that the story DEATH: Minnie Stinebaker told was not true. The police said that George had Jacob around the neck and then shot at him three times. DEATH: He died on Jan 25, 1895 from the wounds. DEATH: He was shot in the street in front of 813 Wright St. BURIAL: Jacob was buried in Bellefontaine Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo. in a single grave number 25-6. He is buried near his son Edwin. BURIAL: There is not a marker at his grave site.
