A voice we loved is stilled; A place is vacant in our home, which never can be filled. Obituary from "The Republican", Harlan, Iowa. "Earling - Funeral of William Jacoby. Saturday morning at 9 o'clock in St. Joseph's Catholic church, occurred the funeral services of William Jacoby. Requiem high mass was said by Rev. Father Steiger. Deceased was born in Vohlandorf, Germany, Oct. 27, 1841, and at the time of his death, Jun. 10, 1926, he was 84 years, 7 months and 13 days old. He came to America to Pittsfield, Mass., in the year 1867, where he remained two years. From there he went to Dubuque where he remained nine years. Here he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Ruden. In 1879 they moved to Earling, IA. To this union nine children were born. One died in infancy. Those surviving are, Peter of Defiance, Mrs. Anton Kenkel, Mrs. John Petche, Harlan; Mrs. Anton Appel, Wirock, Minn.; Mrs. Math Finken, Defiance, Hubert and Mrs. Mike Foxhoven, Fleming, Co.; and Mrs. Mike Finken. Besides the children he leaves to mourn his loss, one brother in Pittsfield, Mass., 64 grandchildren, His wife died a number of years ago. After the services in the church the remains were laid to rest in St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery. The pallbearers were six of his sons-in-law, Anton Kenkel, Tony Appel, John Petche, math Finken and Mike Foxhoven. Those out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Peter Jardings and sons, Carl and William, and William Ruden from Emery, S. D., Mrs. Jake Ruden, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Theisen of LeMars, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Masuen and Joe Ruden of Oyens and Nick Ruden of Remson.

"William Jacoby was born October 27, 1841 at Vohlandorf, Germany. He came to the United States in 1867 with his brother Hubert. They stayed with their brother Matthew in Pittsfield, Massachusetts for two years and then William settled in Dubuque, Iowa for nine years. Here William married Elizabeth Ruden in 1876. Two years later they moved to Grove Township in Shelby County, Iowa. A few years later they moved to a home they built 3 miles east of Earling, Iowa, adding rooms as their family grew. William's brother Hubert also moved to Earling. He was married to Katherine Klein. Elizabeth died on November 13th, 1888 in childbirth with her 9th child. William raised his children on the family farm. Their son Hubert farmed the farm and William lived with them until his death June 10th, 1926."
