Note: From "Preserving Our Past, Ensuring Our Future 1872 - 1997" Westphalia, Iowa. "John Sr. and Elizabeth Jacoby Petsche. John Petsche, (1881 - 1962), married Elizabeth Jacoby (1881 - 1963). They lived most of their married life four miles southeast of Westphalia. Their children are: George, (1905 - 1962), m. Susan Klein; Anthony, (1906 - 1965), m. Margery Schwery, (1912 - 1961); Leo, (1907 - 1992), m. Catherine Klein (1912 - 1995); Estella (b. 1908), m. William Boettger, (1904 - 1990); Frank, (1910 - 1978); John, (b. 1912), m. Alma Weihs, (b. 1911); Agnes (b 1913), m. Irvin Chamberlain, (1910 - 1983); Cecilia (b. 1915), m. LeVern Schwery (1912 - 1982); Michael, (1917 - 1986) m. Helen Graeve Zimmerman, (b. 1918); and Lawerence, (b. 1919), m. to Helen Musich, (b. 1918). John and Elizabeth and their son Frank are buried in the Harlan Cemetery.
Obituary: John "Petche" - Defiance - Requiem high mass was celebrated Thursday morning at St. Peter's church for John Petche, 81, who died at his home Tuesday. Rev. Gerald Deere officiated with former Pastor, P. J. McStay as sub-deacon. Also assisting were John's nephew's, Rev. Basil Finken and Rev. Leonard Kenkel. John farmed east of Defiance for may years and he and his wife, Elizabeth, celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary recently. Interment was made at the Harlan cemetery. Dinner for family and relatives was served by friends at the Defiance club house following services. Survivors include his wife, six sons, and three daughter; four sisters, several nieces and nephews.

Harlan News Advertiser December 17, 1962 Portsmouth Tony and John Petsche received word Tuesday of the sudden death of their father, John Petsche, Sr., 81 of a heart attack at his home near Irwin. Tony Petsche and family and Mr. and Mrs. John Petsche attended the wake at the Pauley Funeral Home and the funeral services Thursday at St. Peter’s church in Defiance. Burial was in Harlan cemetery.
