  Clifford Hugeback, 81 of Carroll, died Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll.
  Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Johnson. Music will be by Barb McDermott and the Holy Spirit Choir. Lector for the funeral mass will be Tom Brincks. Gift Bearers will be Clifford?s granddaughters: Jenna Olberding, Alicia Hugeback, and Courtney Casner. Eucharistic Ministers will be: Art Reicks, and Leon and Florence Oswald. Casket Bearers will be Andy Olberding, Bryan Bock, Richard Casner, and Clifford?s grandsons: Andrew Hugeback, Tanner Johnson, and Bailey Johnson. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion, Maurice Dunn Post # 7.
  Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4:30 p.m., Monday where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m., by the Carroll Knights of Columbus and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. by Holy Spirit Parish. The casket will be taken to Holy Spirit Church at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday where visitation will resume until time of the funeral mass.

  Born on August 27, 1929 at Arcadia, Iowa, Clifford J. Hugeback was the son of Louis and Marie (Hoffman) Hugeback. He grew up and attended school in the Maple River area. On June 27, 1951 he married Shirley Sprimont in Nebraska. Clifford served in the United States Army from 1954 - 1959 and upon being honorable discharged the couple settled in Wright County near Clarion, Iowa. In 1961 Clifford and Shirley returned to the Carroll area and moved to the family farm west of Carroll. Clifford farmed and also worked at Farmland for over 35 years, retiring in 1991. Upon retirement Clifford and Shirley moved to Carroll. Over the years they were foster parents for several children. He enjoyed having his morning coffee with his friends, gardening, his dog Bubbles, and farming. Clifford was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Carroll Knights of Columbus, and the Carroll American Legion, Maurice Dunn Post # 7.
  Survivors include his children: Debra Nickell and her husband Jake of Clive, Doug Hugeback and his wife Brenda of Carroll, and Dee Johnson of Altoona, and her special friend Randy Dopheide of Scranton; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; one sister, Virginia (Norbert) Thelen of Anita; one brother, Merlin ?Butch? Hugeback of Carroll; one sister in-law, Nancy Hugeback of Odebolt; as well as many nieces, nephews, and many friends.
  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Shirley in August 2001; a daughter in infancy, Kathleen; a grandson, Jacob Self; one brother, Virgil Hugeback; two sisters: Laura Schirck and her husband Earl, and Mary Ann Hinners and her husband Alfred; and his sister in-law, Janice Hugeback.
