a. Note:   Virgil Francis Hugeback was born on June 30, 1937, the son of Louis and Marie Hoffman Hugeback. He died on Sunday, January 24, 1993 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of Fifty-five years.
  Virgil was born by Maple River, Iowa and received his education in the St. Peter and Paul's Catholic School in Carroll, Iowa. After completing his education, he worked with his father on the family farm for several years in addition to his employment at the Carroll Lumber Company and then worked for Goetzinger and Steffes Construction. He was a member of the Army Reserve for thirteen years.
  On October 20, 1962, Virgil was united in marriage to Nancy Schwery at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Vail. The couple settled in Carroll later moving to Stockholm Township in Crawford County, where they farmed until 1991 and during that time, Virgil worked as a carpenter for Loren Schultz Construction and in security at the Denison Job Corps. The couple were blessed with the birth of nine children.
  Virgil was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Vail and the Knights of Columbus. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, cards and sports, and was the chairman of the Knights of Columbus basketball tournament.
  He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by Nancy Hugeback, six daughters: Rose Smith and her husband, Vernon, Galen and Laura of Curlew, Iowa; Ann Dunn and her husband, Kim, Rebecca and Amanda of Spencer, Iowa; Marcy, Sara, Ruth and Verna Hugeback all of Vail; three sons, Ronald and his wife, LeAnn, and Heather of Melbourne, Florida; Donald and his wife Corey of Anchorage, Alaska; and Michael of Vail. Other survivors include two brothers, Clifford and his wife, Shirley of Carroll; Merlin "Butch" and his wife, Jan of Carroll; three sisters; Laura Schirck and her husband, Earl of Carroll; Mary Ann Hinners and her husband, Al of lake City, Iowa; and Virginia Thelen and her husband, Norbert of Anita, Iowa; also nieces and nephews.

  Married at Vail . . . Mr. and Mrs. Virgil F. Hugeback spoke their wedding vows Saturday morning, Oct. 20, at St. Ann's Church in Vail, and after Nov. 1 will be at home at 209 North Clark Street, Carroll. Mrs. Hugeback is the former Nancy Schwery, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. LeVern Schwery, Vail. The bridegroom is a son of Mrs. Louis Hugeback, Carroll, and the late Mr. Hugeback. The bride and groom left for a week's trip to western states.
