Note: at she was called Ella because of an Ellen (Ezekiels daughter) already in the family. Grandma Ellen, Edgars wife, lived with us for a short time when I was 6. This was at 4850 Oakland KCK. We have a few pictures of her and Edgar. I believe her name is spelled McConnell although the old spelling was McConnal. Her family farmed north of Ezekiels place. Shown on the 1874 Jo Co gazette as A. McConnall but verified by the census as her family. Ella and Edgar are buried in Olathe Cem. next to Ezekiel and Miranda Tracy. Buried next to them is George (age 6) and Maude (age 25?) probably children of theirs however I have not found a census with them listed. Her obit stated that she was an avid quilter. Her obit also stated she came here from Cambridge Ohio (Guernsey Co)and may have been born there as well. Info from Margaret Pirtle is that she was born in Mad River Township in the county of Champaign not the town of Cambridge. 1870 census of Clay Co MO Gallatin Township Nancy was 14 and living at home with the family. They moved from there to Johnson Co KS.Her and Edgar lived in the Olathe area for many years near both their families. Mrs Pirtle says they owned or operated a grocery store on Lackman Rd for a short while. They moved to Kansas City Kansas around the turn of the century. They lived at 1269 Custer where they lived out their lives with William Ernest across the street for a time. 1900 Olathe KS census: Ernest,Gertrude,Paul and Horton are at home. States that Nancy Ellen gave birth to 4 children and that 4 are still living. George died in 1897. This would not account for him.Must be an error. 1910 Olathe KS census: States that she gave birth to 5 children and that 4 were still living at that time. This would be after George died as Maude died 1917.In this census Paul is 18 and is a plumber and Horton is 12.Maude may be of another family. If she was Nancy's daughter that would be 6 children not 5.
Note: Most records show her as Ellen. However her headstone says Ella. It could be th
