Note: Allen McConnell was my Great Great Grandfather. He came here from Scotland Oct 12 1842 aboard the ship North America from Liverpool to New York.He had lived in Glascow Scotland but not sure if he was born in that city. His name appears in the 1874 Johnson Co. map as owning a farm just north of the Tracy farm. This farm is probably just north of the JO.Co. Executive airport on 151st St. The Tracy farm is just south of the airport on 159th. The map shows a farm between the Tracy place and the McConnells that area would now be the airport. This seems to be the J.Robinson farm (Harmon Tracy's in-laws?) Allen is buried in Olathe Cem. section 122 Lot 2 (west side of cem. next to road) Nice stone with his and Elizabeths name on it. Buried next to to them are Harve H, and Frank. The name has been spelled McConnal in records. Allen lived for a time with the Joseph Pence family in Virginia and Ohio. Joseph Pence Jr married Elizabeth McConnells sister. The McConnell farm was later located at 127th and Pflumm. Their first farm in Johnson Co was near the Ezekiel Tracys place. Aug 01: Ellas obit in the KC Star says they came here from Cambridge(I believe this should be Champaign Co Urbana Township) Ohio date as yet not known but a good guess would be abt 1869.The 1850 census shows Allen living with the Joseph Pence family in Urbana Township. He was 24 and a laborer. A mystery so far is a daughter shown in the 1860 census of Logan Co Ill Lincoln Precinct,Lincoln PO named Adissa age 12. If this is correct she was born 1848 at which time Allen was with the Pences and is not shown to be married and no 2 year old child is listed. She was born May 10 1847 in Champaign Ill. and died July 2 1867 in Westport Mo. Ezekiel Tracy's first wife Lucy also died in Westport in 1867. April 2004: Found the family in 1870 census of Clay Co MO Gallatin Township Liberty P O page 46. Allen 47, Elizabeth 45,St Clair 18,Nancy 14,Jacob 12,James 8,George 6 and Franklin 4. Franklin born MO therefore the family must have been there in 1866.George born Ill 1864.It was previously thought the family moved from Logan Co Ill to Westport MO and stayed there until moving to Jo Co KS abt 1880. Aug 2002: Allen is buried in Olathe Cem. Block 122 lot 2 (west side of cem.) The lots are owned by Clifford Mc Connell (buried there). Also buried there are Elizabeth, Frank B. and Harvey E. Others buried there are probably related. 1895 Kansas census Oxford Twnsp (page33): Lists A.M.McConnell age 69 b Scotland came here from Mo., E.McConnell age 57 B Virginia came here fro MO. G.B.31 b Illinois came from MO.,C (a female)(probably Georges wife Capitola)age 25 B Ohio and come here from Ohio,H.L. 5mos b KS. Found Harve McConnell age 32 b Illinois living with the Meade family as a laborer (page16) Margaret Pirtle told me Allen came from Scotland with his sister. The family farm was at 127th and Pflumm. I have his picture with Elizabeth thanks to Margaret Pirtle. The first three children were born in Champaign Ohio the next two in Logan Ill. and the last one was born in Clay (Co.?)MO The McConnells and the Tracys were probably very close as St.Clair married Ellen Tracy (Ezekiels dau.) and Edgar Tracy (Ezekiels son) married Nancy Ellen McConnell (St Clairs sister)
