Notes
a. Note:   el's namesake. He is listed as living in Franklin in Delaware Co. same census 1820. The Ezekiel listed in Unadilla is shown as Ezekiel Jr. and died age 30 on 6/12/1822. Sgt. Ezekiel was a soldier of the Revolution and was buried
on the farm of Hiram Randall near the Susquehanna River. His stone was moved to Evergreen cemetery in Otego by a descendant Mrs. Henry W Lee. At his death Sgt. Tracy was 66. We are sure he is the Ezekiel listed in the 1820 census of Franklin NY (Delaware Co). Update 9/27/00 : It was previously thought his rank was Capt. I now have the pension application which includes his war record and 3 enlistments.
Included are the Company and Regimental commanders names. He served at
Ticonderoga and Lake George. The pension app. states he died in 1822. Up
to now we thought he died in 1820 as his headstone is inscribed.
A daughter Sally is listed as Sarah born 4/13/1781. Another document
shows Sally born 4/13/1780. The pension app. spells his name Ezekel in some places. The family seems to have lived for some time in Preston Conn. His wife Patience was from Stonington Conn. and they were married 7/17/1777 at the home of her father,John Kimball, in Stonington. They all moved to Lenox Mass. where I believe all of the children were born. The pension application verifies this. Then sometime before the 1820 census they moved to the Franklin NY area. It is known at this time that Ezekiel had at least 2 sisters, Lois Colburn age 83 (1840) and Sally Burnage (or Burnap) age 78 (1840) who attended the wedding and also made affidavit. They were residing in Collins in Erie Co. NY in 1840. An Ezra Tracy married a Jemima Kimball (abt 1760) in
Stonington Conn. Connection to families unknown at this time. Ezekiel and Nathan Tracy (possibly a brother) along with David and Nathan Kimball were listed as early settlers in Charleston, Montgomery Co NY in 1810. They apparently lived for a time there before moving on to Otsego Co.
Jan 2003: We have learned that Montgomery Co was much larger than it is today. It is likely that Ezekiel and family did not move but the county was split up into smaller counties including Otsego Co. Feb 2003: Info from the book A History of Otego: Captain Ezekiel Tracy d 24 Feb 1820 ae 66 on the farm of Alonzo Judd. This property was earlier shared in some way or split up with Samuel Northrup living on part of it and Ezekiels family on the other. The book states "Captain Ezekiel Tracy of Mass.came hither to this property from the farm of Allen Scramling and that he has eleven children" He is listed under "old soldiers of Otego" where it states that he commanded a company at the Battle of Bennington.
Note: Subsequent owners of the Alonzo Judd property were Eli Starr(whose daughter Lura married Ezekiel Tracy b 1823 my GG Grandfather) Hiram Randall and others.
It is a possibility that Ezekiel's parents are Thomas Tracy and Lucy Sprague. Their firstborn was listed as Child Tracy born in Sharon Litchfield Co Conn.in 1753/54. They had other children with biblical names. Their last 3 children were born in Lenox Mass. Ezekiel and Patience left the Preston/Stonington Conn area and moved to Lenox and had their children there. Thomas Tracy died in Lenox May 1777 before Ezekiel and Patience were married July 1777 (in Stonington Conn.)
Note:   This Ezekiel,my GGGG Grandfather, is Jedediah's father and Jedediah's son Ezeki
