These recollections are to some extent self-contradictory and require verification from census records. 1860 Census shows Matilda as wife with age of 39; also shows Thomas Connell (73) and Nancy Connell (73) as part of household. 1850 census shows "Judiah" as wife with children Thomas, Jesse, and Jane.
  Death date derived from Connell family recollections that Jesse died when Lewis was 12. Recollections also confirm Jane Beasley's death during Lewis's infancy and his father's subsequent remarriage.
