a. Note:   Served in teh American Revolution under General W. S. Striker in his brigade as an Ensign, of Capt. Craig's Company. His name is recorded with the Ensigns of New Jersey Troopers on page 450 of General Strikers book of officers and men of New Jersey. He answered the call on December 29, 1781, and served until December 15, 1782 and was commissioned Ensign in Pricel's Company. He was also at one time acting governor of New Jersey.
  As recorded in family Bible owned by his great grandson James Oliver Clark of Westfield, NJ:
  Charles Clark 2d was born September 21, 1752 at Westfield, NJ and died September 8, 1821 aged 69 years 11 months and 8 days. He served under General W.S. Striker in his brigade as Ensign of Captain Craig's company during the service of his regiment.
  His name is recorded with the Ensigns of New Jersey State Troopers on p. 450 of General Striker's book of officers and men of NJ in the Revolutionary War.
  He [Charles Clark] is buried in the old church yard cemetary of the First Presbyterian Church at Westfield, NJ. A marble slab marks his grave.
  Charles Clark, Sr. or 2d was President of the NJ Senate in 1813 and a descendant of Richard Clark, who came over from England in 1620 as a ship's carpenter.
  The father of Charles Clark 2d was Captain Charles Clark, who was born in 1725 and died in 1785. His wife's name was Mary. The father of Captain Charles Clark was William Clark, one of the founders of Westfield, NJ, and his father's name was Thomas Clark, who came from England in 1680 with his father Samuel Clark.
  Charles Clark 3d, son of Charles Clark 2d, came to Georgia when a young man, and married 1st Eleanor Carswell of Savannah. After her death, he married Sara Murphy, daughter of Nicholas Murphy, and theyhad sixteen children. The second of these, Nancy Mariah Clark, married William Levin Taylor, who served int eh War Between the States as a member of the Georgia Militia Troops. Their children are named in Murphy Paper.
