Notes
a. Note:   {geni:about_me} George W. Tatum served in a Cobb County unit durin
Note:   g the Civil War. He lived in Milton County after the war and raised his family there. He married a Milton County girl, Sarah Ann Dodd and had 11 children, all born in Milton County. Many of the descendants of George W. and Sarah A. Tatum remained in Milton County. George W. Tatum was a Private in Company F, 56th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Cobb County. He enlisted on 10 May 1862 as the 56th Regiment was being formed. After receiving training at Camp McDonald in Cobb County, GA the Regiment was assigned to Cummings Brigade of Brigadier General Carter Steven's Division, Army of Tennessee, CSA. His Georgia CSA pension records filed from Milton County show he was wounded and disabled at Vicksburg, Mississippi on 16 June 1863. A bullet fractured his hip and/or shoulder (the official account says 'hip injury' but his descendants report that his shoulder most definitely retained a Vicksburg mini-ball the rest of his days). Perhaps he was injured in both places. At any rate, he surrendered with his unit at Vicksburg on 4 July 1863 and was paroled on 8 July 1863 and exchanged/ released on 19 July 1863. After returning to the CSA Army he was discharged from the Army for his disability. He suffered from his wounds and disability for the rest of his life.
